Because it’s not always about rocks.
(I have no idea what that means, but I’m running out of rock memes)
As we started to drive out of the Grand Canyon National Park…
We passed a mule deer.
And then a whole herd.
They’re sweet little things.
Much smaller than what we have here in Maine….
Did you know there’s a village inside the park?
Complete with lodges…
And cottages…
That need carpet cleaners?
I didn’t. It never occurred to me that there would be anything other than natural, pristine wilderness.
But there was a train station…
And studios, an amphitheater and a market.
There were also some pretty impressive icicles.
Told you it was cold!
Having been dutifully warned of the traffic…
We turned on Desert View Drive, where we didn’t view any desert….
But did run into frozen fog….
Which, when it sticks to the trees and bushes?
Is almost magical.
That frozen fog effect is beautiful. I like the icicles, too.

The icicles are beautiful. The mule king sign is unique. I didn’t know there was a lodge inside the Grand Canyon Park and now I want to stay at it at a really off time for tourism. ‘Cause not keen on all the peoples blocking my view of nature.

Nov to March is down time for tourists. We were there the 2nd week in January and there were just handfuls of people. Some spots we had completely to ourselves. (Except for elk) Perfect!

Were you aware of this when you planned your trip or was it coincidental?

I love Fog on my trees and bushes. It’s beautiful. I had it on the screens on the porch once too. It was surreal….

I was aware of Bright Angel Lodge . . .
Are you aware of the history behind Stanley Steamers?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Motor_Carriage_Company
But wait, there’s more:
The Stanley Hotel is a 142-room Colonial Revival hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, United States … It was built by Freelan Oscar Stanley of Stanley Steamer fame and opened on July 4, … The Stanley Hotel served as the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s 1977 bestselling novel The Shining and as the filming … [Wikipedia]
And I bet the Stanley Hotel (like Bright Angel Lodge) uses Stanley Steemers to clean the carpets!
It’s the circle of life!

He must be.
And one has to wonder why….

I may or may not owe him 12 dollars. And he may or may not be mad about that. Just hypothetically.

Hypothetically, of course.

Huge honkin’ icicles hanging over a public staircase! What could possibly go wrong?
