I know this has been a “thing” for a while…
But I’m just getting around to mocking it.
Apologies for the tardiness, but there’s just too much crazy out there for a girl to keep up.
A.S.M.R.
Autonomous sensory meridian response.
Definition:
The feeling of well-being combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and down the back of the neck, as experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus, often a particular sound.
ASMR is triggered by things like whispering voices, paper tearing, and scalp massage.
Oh, yes.
This is for real.
And lots of people swear by it.
It’s used for relaxation as well as a sleep aid, and is meant to give the viewer a relaxing tingle at the back of their head.
Upon researching, I discovered there’s pretty much an A.S.M.R. video of everything.
Hair brushing, eating coconut, fingernail tapping, slime swirling, face plucking, ear cleaning…..
Because come on.
Nothing soothes you to sleep like listening to a good ear cleaning.
And then there’s my personal favorite, dog reviewing fruit.
A.S.M.R.
Because just when I think I’ve seen everything….
Thousands of people step up to prove me wrong.
Great… now that you’ve shown me… I’VE seen everything, now…
Nothing left to look forward to…

Apologies.
But never fear… I’m sure I’ll find something equally as ridiculous soon.

My wife swears by it, but then she has trouble sleeping most nights. I tell her she needs to unplug, you know; like (get some R and R) *** get off the phone (games and social media). But noooo!

I have tried it my self a time or two, but I just never “got into” it like people that live by it. …as always ~ymmv

Really?
Well, that’s good to know. I’m a chronic insomniac as well but from the research I did in this post… I don’t think I’m a tingler.

If someone gets ASMR feeling from things like whispering voices or paper tearing, they along with ASMR must be avoided.

Tinglers. The mere name makes my eyes roll….

I don’t get it either, I mean there are people who are relaxed by this. I mean there is a video of someone eating chips, loudly and this is supposed to relax you? Already advertisers have gotten into the ASMR thing with that Michelob Ultra Pure Gold, where Zoe Kravitz is tapping on the bottle and whispering into a microphone. Do we really need this? Okay I like to listen to the sound of rain and thunder sometimes to help me sleep, and yes there’s an app for that, lol. But to me that’s the sound of nature, I don’t like listening to someone eating, or crunching or tapping their nails. I can say though that listening to Bob Ross was somewhat relaxing, I have no idea why.

Bob Ross will put anyone to sleep. But listening to someone clip their nails? That would drive me batty.

Happened to me years ago, before there was even a word for it. Thought it was a random strange thing so kept quiet about it. I will probably forget about it again by the time I reach the end of this sentence.

What is with this, anyway? I had never heard of it until the other day when hubby was going through the channels on twitch. Personally, I thought it sounded kind of creepy rather than relaxing. But I hear people can make pretty good money making these videos. 🤷♀️

I felt a little creeped out the first time I heard one as well….
But hey if there’s money it, maybe we should make our own.
Wonder how many people would tingle listening to me pumice my heels?
🤔

My son literally JUST asked us yesterday if he could take his phone to his bedroom to sleep. It was a hard no ✋🏻 but we asked why and he told us about this ASMR!
I swear if I weren’t sure you were real, I would think you were a bot listening in through my phone, lol! You know how if you say a business name or product enough times, your phone is listening and will start shooting you ads for that thing? We said ASMR like a thousand times as we were discussing it. Too funny.
Anyhow, the jury is out for me. I’m not buying it up front, doesn’t sound like it’s my thing. But you know what they say!… Don’t knock it till ya try it!

That IS funny.
I’d like to say it’s because I’m omnipotent… but it’s just a happy coincidence.
While I’m a firm believer in whatever floats your boat, this seems a little woo woo, new age, we need something for people to tweet about for me. It’s basically those old cd’s with soothing nature sounds for the new generation. I you can’t sleep without the sound of people trimming their toenails? Seek help.

If you get to be omnipotent, I want in on those super powers too… what has to happen? Hit by lightning? Bit by a spider? A bat? Lol!
I’m with you on the ASMR deal too, What ever happened to looking at the back of your eyelids? I don’t have sleep problems though, so I guess I do have to stick to the whatever floats your boat mantra.

I think you have to be born that way. I’d avoid the bats..

I’ve never heard of this . . . but I don’t mind being out of the loop.
In fact, it gives me a feeling of well-being to not be in lock-step with the rest of the sheep.
