In the midst of a viral apocalypse, it’s hard not to think about your health.
Am I safe? Will I be infected?
And if so, should I be binge watching Netflix… or picking out a granite color and font?
Thankfully I’m a very healthy person. One might say boringly so.
I’ve never broken a bone.
I’ve never had the flu, an ear infection, strep throat, the measles, pink eye or a cavity.
I still have my tonsils, appendix and wisdom teeth.
Until I was 48 years old, I’d never had the chicken pox either.
And trust me…. when I caught them from the husband because he came down with shingles?
I was not a happy camper.
No, those aren’t pimples….
And if you think it sucked having chicken pox as a kid? Try doing it when you’re almost 50. It’s not only Hella uncomfortable…. but dangerous to boot.
Matter of fact, it was such an oddity to present at that age, all the doctors and nurses stopped by the exam room to take a peek.
You know all those times in your life when it was nice to feel special?
That wasn’t one of them.
But aside from that week of polka dotted misery, I’ve been blissfully healthy.
Heck, I’d never even been in the hospital until a few years ago…. and naturally, everything that could go wrong?
Did.
Quite spectacularly.
Because if you’re going to screw something up?
My motto is don’t do it halfway.
Oh my gosh, the chicken pox. Yeah, that’s not something to do twice. My mom was an anomaly who managed to get chicken pox in her 60’s after she had the shingles vaccine. Then about a year later, she got it again. Her doctor was shaking his head.

But if you’ve never had chicken pox, you can’t get shingles so there would be no need to get the vaccine. That’s bizarre. And ugh, 48 was old enough. No thank you to 60!

My dad has shingles right now and complains of the pain. Says it’s like being shallow stabbed in the chest and back. I’ve never had chickenpox but I’d rather chickenpox than shingles I think.

Shingles cause excruciating, long lasting pain. The only way you can get them
is if you’ve already had chicken pox. It’s basically just the virus reigniting in your body.
Now that the husband gave me the pox, I can get shingles. I told him if I do… he’s a dead man.

That’s fair. He gave you chickenpox after all.

Oh my, but this I can say I know how you feel. I got the chicken pox at 34, and it was a horrible experience! I even got them inside my ears, mouth and nose, talk about painful….🤬🥴🤕

“Hey Doc, what’s this?”
“What?”
“This thing here.”
“Hmmmmm, I want our interns to see this.”
“Oh S**T.”

I don’t remember much about the measles, I was only five, and just remember being so miserable in the school yard when the breakout happened. But when I got the shingles in my late ##’s, I would have killed for morphine.
You can get vaccinated against shingles, BTW …

Yes, I know. The other half got the shot… and 2 weeks later got the shingles. I might have to pass.

Ah, young lady, you have a lot to learn! I didn’t have a single health problem until I was 63 and that’s when it started–and I am still falling apart!!
Just reference–how old was hubby when he had his heart problems?????

Thanks for giving me something to look forward to…
Hubby had a stent put in at age 55, triple bypass at 71.
