.
Our final CSA harvest from the farm across the street was picked up yesterday.
.
.
Peppers, turnip, tomatillos, parsley, basil, leeks, fennel, radishes, carrots…
.
.
A fabulous watermelon I wish we’d seen more of this past summer…
And this:
.
.
A beautiful thing I had to look up.
.
.
I’d never heard of it. And after sampling a little? I was glad. Mountain meadow my *ss.
Blech! Shiso was a great big no no.
But apparently it’s very popular in Japan where they use it in sushi and drink it as tea.
.
.
Can’t say the pesto looks very appetizing.
.
.
Or whatever the heck that is. If I didn’t know better I’d say marinated dog poo on rice.
Well, to each their own. But take my word for it, it is popular.
.
.
I have no idea what that says, but yeah. I’m still going to pass.
.
Well, its a step above their pig-placenta soda…

But that tastes like peaches. Or so I’m told…

Maybe it will work as squirrel repellent.

Interesting…
I was thinking flame thrower, but that could work.

Do you grow any veggies in your area?

We have a 75 acre organic farm directly across the street… why would I?

It would give you a “job” or “interest” outside of the barn project.

The Japanese eats lots of stuff I stay clear of. Some WAY clear of. When I lived in Hawaii, where there are LOTS of Japanese restaurants, and the menu sounded more like a compost heap. That is why they eat lots of rice.

I love rice, but I doubt it can drown out the flavor of marinated Shiso.

That is the same category I put Kale. Unless I drown it in Thousand Island dressing.

I prefer to drown it in kerosene, and then light a match.

It was pretty.
Hey, if it tastes awful maybe I could use it to deter woodchucks next year….

What do you make with the tomatillos?

Nothing actually. Just pop them in salad like cherry tomatoes.

Throw it in a salad along with the kale. You won’t even taste the difference!

You’re right, because I’d be throwing the whole thing in the trash.
Blech!

I would like to try it. It’s pretty, but who knows, for me, could be as yummy as kale chips or as gross as cooked beets. Must try. Thank you for bringing something new into my food world.

I will not be held responsible for the horrible taste in your mouth. That’s on you.

Next time, just use it in a bouquet as a centerpiece. 😛
