In my dreams, I’m a proof reader. It’s the perfect job because someone would pay me to read all day and find mistakes. Like this one I just found in a John Grisham novel.

Did he really loved the office? I don’t think so.
.
.
That’s a good question. Nothing worse than a greedy hog.

.
Anyone want to purchase our 4 year old water pump? My husband thinks the buyers be lining up and made me list it on 6 various sites. No offers yet… and I can’t say I’m shocked.
.
.
Bourbon toothpicks? Yes please!
.
.
Maine brewers come up with some interesting names for their beers.
.
.
And if you think that’s bad?
Here’s my husband wearing the t shirt at the Sebago Lake Brewfest a few years ago.

Dementia dog. 😂

I think “loved” is right in that context…

The character is a lawyer, they don’t love anything except billable hours.

I loved the office at 7:00 am. It was before my coworkers arrived. Nothing like other people to ruin a good day.

I got most of my work done between 6:30 am and 8:00 am. After that, it was interruptions galore.

On the editing: I did not see anything wrong with the wording or syntax, but I am a business major, so I discussed it with Cupcake. Now, Cupcake teaches Composition at the collegiate level, has advanced degrees in English and Linguistics, is a published author, has been paid to edit and paid to ghost write,,,,so she is the authority in this (and many other) houses, and other than capitalizing the word “The”, this is correct usage and requires no editing. He “loved” the office before it got noisy. He qualified his reasons for loving the office. The grammar is correct, The semantics are correct, the tense is correct, and the mechanics are correct. What is it you are seeing that makes you think it needs editing?

I wrote this a few weeks ago, but if I remember correctly….. in context, it should have been left. He left the office at 7:00am.

From the way it is printed, the context appears “He loved the office at 7 a.m. before the day…one presumes….’began and the phone started ringing.’
Parallel structure-using the same pattern of words to show that two or more ideas have the same level of importance. So, he “stomped upstairs” “turned on the lights” and “checked” follow the same pattern of past tense solidifying parallel structure. The -ed form is parallel with the other forms used in the sentences or paragraph.

Could be. Maybe I need to proof read myself…

Just keep the water pump until it becomes a rusty antique which husband will want to keep. It make take a few decades, but until then, you can use it for all kinds of things….none of which I can think of at the moment, but I have faith in you to come up with something(s).

My dad has six unusable water pressure hoses. Will not throw them out and says someone will pay for them. I imagine it’ll be like your husband’s water pump… no buyer.

It’ll be awkward at the River holiday party when both yourself and Mama Red exchange the gift of a six pack of Cast Iron Bitch with each other…

It always amazes me when I find an error in a novel that isn’t self-published…especially for a big-name author like Grisham!
NOBODY loves the office at 7 a.m. Friday at 4:45 p.m. or so is the closest I’ll come to thinking fondly of it.

Actually I love my office at 7:30am because NO ONE ELSE IS THERE and I can get some stuff done that I mess up if I get interrupted while doing. So ya, I get it.
