If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. So I did and tried my hand at a little Barn Mahal decorating.
Under the stairs, some antique crocks and a large one that will double as a trash can.
.
.
The apple press and butter table have now found a home.
.
.
And then it was time to supervise the beginning of the husband’s I love myself wall.
.
.
Marine Corps dress sword and a collection of photos of him in Vietnam, Okinawa and Beirut.
.
.
I think it turned out well.
.
.
And for the piece de resistance …
.
.
A pool table cover I spent a fortune on as a gift.
.
.
Needless to say it was a hit.

It took decades, but my mother finally got my dad’s medals together and mounted them in a display case on the wall.

I keep talking about doing that and he says no. He rates a lot of them, wish I could do it without him.

It took a lot of years before my dad would talk about Vietnam. He thought that not talking about it would put it behind him.
It did not.

It took a long time for my other half to be comfortable sharing with me also. The stories are horrible, and heartbreaking. But I’ve learned more listening to him talk to other vets.

Oh my. Aren’t you a sweetheart. For all your jabs and protestations, you really do love that guy. That cover looks so good.

I do. It’s just funnier to blog about the complaints.

Post-covid think of all the parties you can have there.
But where is the closest loo? 😂

For the men it’s the nearest tree. Women have to walk a little farther, to the house.

You see? He is picking up on your River Decorating 101. And here you thought he wasn’t paying attention. That wall looks stellar! 😉

No, that was me from start to finish. The minute he said he wanted to move the I love me wall from the office to the barn, I took over. He hangs things here there and everywhere with no thought to balance.

Unless those three smaller crocks can double as a still, then they are way out of place.

Oh man, it looks great.
Someday, I need to get up to Maine and see it in person.

It makes me wonder if, post Covid, I’ll ever be comfortable hugging someone hello again. Alcohol will probably help.

My father was a Marine. I have his medals mounted in a box and packed away for my next move.

If we still lived in a military town it would be an easier task.

Not sure about those crock things. Seems like a strange placement. Love the room, very antiquey.
