Let the games begin.

So now that we have a comfortable, heated and (well stocked with beer) man cave, it was time to get down to some serious board game playing. Covid social restrictions make multi player games like Pictionary and Cards Against Humanity a no go, so we searched for something fun to play with two people.

The husband won’t play Trivial Pursuit or Gin Rummy with me anymore because I wipe the floor with him every time. So we tried a game a friend had given us last year as a gift.

Simple enough, you finish the lines from various categories… music, literature etc.

We played three games and I skunked my other half three times. Even though I gave him music questions from his favorite song.

So we moved on to a classic, Scrabble.

It wasn’t an easy start and we didn’t have a lot to build from.

My task was made even more difficult with letters like these.

But after a marathon four and a half hour game?

I won…. and my husband was pickled.

  5. Sounds fun! We haven’t played games as much, although we should. We were playing Scrabble together online and she crushes me every time. We used to play Backgammon a lot and this game with a bunch of marbles or stones that you have to move back and forth in a tray. I could look it up, but it’s more fun just leaving you wondering what the heck I’m talking about. We’ve been playing Animal Crossing, but differently. She spends a lot of time decorating and building areas. She’ll say “Check out our new post office”, or “Look, I built a book store.” Then I play and say “I caught three carp. Can you believe it?” Because all I do is fish when I play. Maybe I’ll get the cards out this week and see what happens. We used to play a ton of Rummy.

    1. We have tiles from 3 separate bags we use when we play. We use them one after another for marathon games… but this time the husband wanted to mix them all together. It was a miserable failure and won’t be repeated.

      1. I can see advantages and disadvantages to having that many tiles at your disposal. Scrabble roques!

        What? Roques is so a word. It rhymes with socks . . . and fox.

    1. Like is a tame word for how I feel about Scrabble. We have tiles from 3 separate games so we can have marathon sessions…. but we use them separately, not all together. Scrabble is da bomb of board games.
