Well, the British pulled up their warships and shelled the palace until it was reduced to rubble. 3,000 people died in that 38 minutes, so I wouldn’t really consider it painless.

True, but considering how long wars drag on now and how many military + civilian people die because of them, IF we’re going to have wars this would reduce the anguish and the expense and the endless news cycles about them. Better to have no wars, of course.
