.
On our way home from our scenic drive the other day we stopped for a cocktail ( or two ).
.

.
Repeat after me… martinis are not made with rum. Nope. Uh uh. Never. Cherry Gin Ricky it is.
.

.
Nice flavor, but a little too sweet so I asked the bartender to dial back the grenadine on #2. Bartenders are wonderful people, so helpful and attentive to our needs.
.

.
Cocktails with my husband always requires food, so he ordered mussels while I opted for Truffle fries. Both were yummy but the real news? Even after I declined ketchup, 3 packets made their way to our table.
.

.
Oh, the extravagance! After the waitress said she couldn’t take them back due to Covid rules… and when my husband remembered there was a shortage causing people to list them on eBay for $15 per… he scooped them up and brought them home. Where they’ll languish in the drawer until the next global pandemic lockdown.
.

.
We’ve gone back to salt & pepper shakers and bottles of ketchup on the table.

Yes, that’s starting here as well. I suppose they just wanted to use these up …

Oh those mussels look great–I love dipping bread in the mussels sauce—better than a Margarita–YES! I SAID THAT!

I’m afraid I can’t agree.

There is still a ketchup shortage? Oh, I didn’t remember since I don’t use it much. But, no picture of the truffle fries? Oh and that habanero margarita looks like it’s just up my alley. 🍹🍹🍹🍹

Much as I love spice, I’m not a jalapeño or habanero fan.

For a minute I thought you were going to say, “Martinis are not made for me.”

I can guarantee that’s something I would never say.

Why would there be rum in a martini?

There shouldn’t. If there’s rum? It’s a daiquiri.

I trained as a union bartender in Reno, wat back in 19**, (but post stone age) where martini’s had 1/3 vermouth in them, and rickies were always Bombay gin and Roses Lime Juice, which was a bit sweet and syrupy … it was stirred and strained.
None of us could conceive of the mixologists apostasies of today. How far the tradition has strayed from its pure roots. Can a rum margarita be afar off?

It proves the old adage just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Rum margaritas? Bite your tongue.

Hence the word catch up or don’t.

I’m strictly a beer guy, and all this martini/margarita talk is starting to make me feel like I’m hardly worthy of following such a high class blog. May I make a suggestion for future posts:

All I got with that link was Amy Klobachar’s opening statement …. but rest assured this blog is many things, none of them high class.
🤣

That’s strange — I clicked the link and still got MORE BEER (a song by the Andrews Sisters). How Amy got in on the act, I don’t know….but I’d rather have MORE BEER.

More beer is always a good thing.

Rum? Noooo…!
The Cranberry Cinnamon Sour sounds absolutely delightful, though.

We have one of those drawers too! Duck Sauce, Arby’s Sauce, Taco Bell sauce. I wonder if these things have a shelf life?

I’m sure they do. Though it might be 2056.

Again. No shortages. Only people saying that to up the prices. Right? Plenty of ketchup here. Send you a bottle?

We have plenty of ketchup in bottles. It’s the restaurants who are having a hard time getting packets.

Some here are putting them in the little paper cups instead. MUCH smarter idea than the packets.
