Maine, glorious Maine.

.

I think you all know I adore my state. It’s scenically beautiful and far enough off the beaten path for our weirdos to be considered delightfully quirky. So let me share a few other reasons Maine is a wonderful, if slightly odd, place to live.

You’d be surprised how often these potentially fatal conversations take place.

.

.

And yet they all try.

If you’ve never seen a real live moose in person? Trust me…. they’re huge and will total your car when hit.

Many people will tell you it still tastes like horrible medicine, but I love it. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream? Mm, mm, good.

I personally know of 7 Hardscrabble Roads… but hey, no one said living in Maine is easy.

  1. That first picture alone would keep me out of Maine!! Yes it is a beautiful picture but I wouldn’t want to be in it!! Plus I would rather a friend and I be inside talking than being hit by snow covered limbs!!

  2. We have alligators, a few snakes, and stay inside talking on a hot summer day or month (all 90 or above) for the month of May and beginning of June….you find a few Indian names abound in Florida. Maine might be a nice place to visit but we do like our part of the world.

  3. As much as I say I’d love to live up north, I don’t think I could take the winters. I’ve grown up in far west Texas and can deal with the heat, with almost no humidity.

I’ve tasted Moxie, it does have a medicine-y after taste to it. I’ll stick to Dr. Pepper I think 😎.

  4. I’ve been to Maine once and even though I was a kid I still remember it as phenomenally beautiful. And also a place with a lot of roadside aquariums, which was cool. I got to hold a sea cucumber and see live scallops at one. This may also have just been a dream since we were there in July but I’d swear it snowed one day. And picking blueberries before breakfast was a great way to start each day.
Yeah, I definitely need to go back, and this time I’ll try Moxie.

We stayed in a cabin on Green Lake, and went to a couple of aquariums where I held a sea cucumber and saw live scallops. It was in July so this may have just been a dream but I could swear it snowed one day. Somehow that seems believable for Maine.

    1. Green Lake is up near Bangor, about an hour and a half from us. Maine is really two states…. northern and southern, with cultural as well as scenic differences. It’s perfect if you can experience both. And Moxie. Yes!

  6. I could not survive a Maine winter. I was relaxing by our pool yesterday, a nice 104 degrees and chatting with my mom who lives in Washington where it was 50 degrees. We are planning on visiting her in a couple weeks and I am filling my suitcase with long pants and sweaters!

  7. I wanna come and visit all the quirky weirdos. But only during summertime, I can’t imagine snow or being decapitated by a falling limb.
    Girl, you’ve got Moxie. Literally.
Hardscramble. Tell us about it. :0
