Peonies!
.

.
For a dramatic pop of color you can’t beat them.
.

.
And the scent? Ooh la la.
.

.
I fill our home with vases every summer and it’s positively glorious.
.

.
If you’ve never planted one, they can be a little tricky to get started… but so worth the effort.
In other garden news…
.

.
My rose is starting to put on a show.
.

.
The blooms almost look painted.
.

.
And after a few teaspoons of fertilizer and a good soaking with the hose?
.

.
More blossoms than I can count.
.

.
Yes, it’s a beautiful time of year.

So pretty!

So gorgeous. Weird how different our growing times are. It doesn’t seem like it should be that far off from Iowa.

To be fair, the pics were taken the end of last month.

And in a month or two they will be buried in snow!!! If you really want you can send me a dozen peonies—they don’t grow here!

Looks like Minnesota is a good month ahead of you. My peonies looked like that early-mid June. Now they’re just green and boring. I split one of my peonies after it flowered and planted the two parts in new spots. Boy do they look bad. They look dead. I have high hopes that they are just holding a grudge (peonies do that, I find) and will be back with me next year.

I’m not sure you can divide a peony. They might die on you just to teach a lesson.

Peonies are my MOST favorite! I hardly ever see them here in the stores and goodness knows, I’ll never see them in a garden here. TOO Damn hot. Yours are lovely…all your bloomers are lovely.

Thanks. They are definitely a northern, cool climate flower. All our nurseries are loaded with them, in various colors.
