.
Especially when your closet looks like this.
.
.
I spent 5 solid hours sorting, cleaning and trying on a shockingly large collection of things that no longer fit… but only managed to finish one little section.
.
.
It was exhausting… as well as depressing and I called it quits when I hit the jean pile, mumbling tomorrow is another day in my best Scarlett O’Hara voice.
.
.
I had to ditch multiple pairs of cute boots due to my I’m not 90 but my feet think they are bunions that have ruined the joy of shoe shopping and turned it into a loathsome chore I’ve come to dread. Gone are the days of fashionable heels… now? I live in sandals, sneakers and boots.
.
.
Three garbage bags later my closet looked better… but I was more than ready for a consolation cocktail. Or two.
.
Oh River….I feel your pain. Seriously, I feel it because that’s what I went through when I moved into my new house. I have four large lawn size garbage bags I need to take to Goodwill or Savers to donate because of clothes that are now too big, out of style or I just don’t like anymore. And two of those are bags of heels, sandals and other types of shoes I don’t use. I haven’t gotten a chance to do that just yet because of work. But I cleaned out my wardrobe and to think it only took me two months…lmao.

I’ve been trying to get thru mine too. We have 12,500 Afghan refugees at a Fort near me. Donating a crapton of stuff to get rid of it since it never sells on yard sales.

That’s a great idea.

I have to do this every few years….why are all my clothes shrinking?!
Did you ever watch the Marie Kondo episodes on Netflix? There is a new one, but I’m talking about the one that was out around 3 years ago. I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but it really inspired me to clean out things I was holding onto for ‘someday’ or for some other nonsesical reason.
The shoe thing. *sigh* that has been my crux since I was around 25; flat feet and pain. I only wear orthotic supportive shoes and they are hardly ever cute. My sneakers have always been the most comfortable given a choice and if I were in a workout or casual situation. Cut to the past few weeks wheras i’m having heel pain in one foot and it’s worse in my so.very.comfrotable sneakers. I feel a visit to my foot Dr. is in order but according to the INTERNET it might be a heel spur. *insert sad face*

It’s a cruel twist of fate that a woman who adores shoes…. me… should develop the feet of a decrepit old hag at 40. I positively weep when I have to dress up and can’t wear anything stylish.

It’s horrible! I found some semi-decent orthotic type heels to wear for lauren’s wedding. But they will be coming off before the hours up and I will be wearing flip-flops with my gown!!

This old age stuff is not for the faint hearted. Orthotic heels? *shudders*

Have you tried a plantar fasciitis brace? It can feel like bone spurs but is FAR easier to treat… just need to stretch the muscle.
I hope it’s not spurs!!

River—yes Vionic has some nice looking shoes, not for longevity though. https://www.vionicshoes.com/bianca-heel.html

Oh, those are cute! Not bunion friendly though..

Hey! I know what plantar fasciitis is, but I don’t think that is what I’m experiencing. I’ve had foot issues for most of my life and I do wear orthotics 24/7. Generally, that helps, but the heel thing is new. I’ll see how it goes and if it persists I’ll see my DR. Thank you for the advice!

Good luck! I was extremely relieved when a faciitis brace helped me. But my toes required shots and, about 9 mos later, I’ve made an appt for another round.
Good luck!!!

You did far better than me!
As for footwear, I looove high heels but my knees require me to now live in flats. I’ll be wearing sneakers to the new job.

I don’t have a problem with heels per se, but I need a wider toe box because of the bunions and they’re impossible to find.

When your weight goes up and down you kind of have to. And mind you, I keep summer and winter out all year long living in Maine.

That’s why I go through my clothes January 5 EVERY year–if I haven’t/couldn’t wear something in the past year out they go!

I did that. Every drawer and closet. Kind of sad, actually.

Oh, the drawers. I haven’t even thought about them….

Flats will not give you back problems in later years. Heels will, even 2″ heels. You may feel sexier in them, but when you cannot have sex because of your back, it will be too late to change your situation.
