You know your cat is spoiled when he gets lifted up to the window to watch the birds.

Pint of beer my husband recently received at our local pub. I detest IPA’s, but beer is my juice of choice.

Results of a horrible multi unit fire that displaced 10 people in our town. This is what the old farm used to look like in the 1800’s.

By the following day a gofundme campaign had raised $14,000. For a town with a population of just over 700, I’d say we’re pretty generous folk.

A mussel appetizer the husband ordered this week. I stopped counting at 38. Definitely get your money’s worth there.

This.

This is what happens when temperatures rise too quickly in what should be winter in Maine. All our lovely snow melts, freezes and melts again. We have a skating rink driveway and mini floods everywhere because the ground is still too cold to absorb the water.

This…. is a mess.

  1. Ugh, the freeze-thaw that turns fluffy pretty snow in to a hockey rink between us and our car. It has been a awful year for that. I don’t like IPAs either, but they seem to be the dominant brew on tap. What did we do to deserve this?

      1. Here’s hoping your hipbones are still dense and healthy. Hips can be broken much more easily than a neck. My ex’s 90 year old aunt broke her hip the day before her birthday. She never reached 91. Very sad.
Suggest hubby put a cloth rug or old blanket in front of the door. When the absorbed water freezes you won’t slip and fall coming out the door. As for the paths, hay ot straw work wonders, and provide good fertilizer for the lawn in spring. Not funny, I know, but neither are broken bones.

  2. There’s a whole slew of breweries around here, they all make IPA and it all blows like a mighty wind of undrinkable bitterness. It’s like a sport. 38 mussels for an appetizer? I’m in!
Cat tent? I’ll be looking that item up as soon as I am done here.
    Good job, Riv.

  3. That house looks more like it was hit by a tornado, rather than a fire. Glad to hear the community is helping out.
Had to look up the meaning of IPA. International Phonetic Alphabet? That one didn’t work. INDIA Pale Ale. I bet that was it! Question: why was IPA made in England, and shipped to India? Sounds backwards to me. And now obviously it is popular in the USA. “I Pee American!” Sounds like a slogan to me. He he he.

  4. I’m telling you, the hubs loves Lord Dudley with all his heart!! It shows in that picture for sure. Don’t know Maine weather sounds like Texas weather without the snow. Freezing one day, warm/hot the next , it’s infuriating. I’m sure your not a fan of the instant hockey rinks that appear over night. I’m with you on the IPAs, they are a trend of beer anyone can make nowadays. Give me a Guinness and I’m good.

  5. India pale ale got its start in the days when India was part of the British empire. Beer was shipped there from England, but they had to jam it full of hops to keep it from getting all skunky from the long voyage and the heat. In its modern iteration, where they brew it and can sell it right down the street, or even right in the same building, IPA doesn’t make much sense to me.

      1. I was born in Maryland, so not that far. My mom is one of those tough-ass hillbilly women. You’ve never seen an eighty-year-old woman work a pair of post hole diggers quite like her.

  6. We actually fell into the 40’s a few times. Lordy. Might be time to move even farther south. Hey, tell your Marine husbands that the water he is losing to will eventually go through those slats between the boards and go away. Marines always have to do it the hard way.

  7. Mother nature keeps you busy with all the snow, melting, snow, ice, etc…
My husband will only drink IPA’s and always asks me to taste them. NO THANKS. Where are my grapes?
So sad about the fire, but so nice that people are willing to help assist a fresh start. Losing everything to a fire scares the bejesus out of me.
