Because you’re already here, you might as well.

I didn’t even have to think about this one…. read.
I’ve often said I could happily live on a deserted island as long as I had a large enough stack of reading material.
Never underestimate the power of a good book to keep you company. Some of them are my best friends.
.

.
How about you…
What are you doing to stay sane in solitary?
.
For me, there’s nothing that wouldn’t get old in that amount of time, but I guess I’d say challenging but not hair-pulling crossword puzzles. I was going to say jigsaw puzzles, but those can drive me batty at times. Books could work, but I’d somehow magically have to have a stack of books that I love. So often I get a book from the library but end up returning it early because it hasn’t kept me engaged. Hey, wait… blogs – both reading them and writing. Yeah, I could do a series about being in solitary!

Books work quite well. Books and a garden are double bonus point territory.

Having been in solitary, I seem to remember singing a song, over and over and over, ad infinitum:

I have no plans on ever being in solitary again. So I forgot the words.

I dig the song and couldn’t have sung it any better myself (but then, I was outnumbered).

Much the same as you, books would keep me sane!
I have left several comments on your blog lately, Rivergirl – and they seem to have vanished into the blogosphere. I wonder if I have been banished by the internet gods to spam jail or something???
It may be that this one won’t make it to your blog either, but I will keep trying.

No question about it, reading it is. If I was limited to only a few books, I would have my Bible (King James Version), the world’s best Bible concordance (I don’t know which one that is) and a huge Bible dictionary. There is every type of story imaginable in the Bible.
I was in the hospital for four weeks last fall. All I had to read was my Bible and my e-reader. I recommend e-readers for situations like that, when you can’t physically have print books. I mostly read my Bible, but did read that horrible book by Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny.
My doctor mostly talked to me about books. He asked me for a list of five books related to my interest in history and he gave me a list of five, of his favourites. I have kept his list (where else?) in the back of my Bible.
If I could have extra books, I’d have The Iliad and The Odyessey, both translated by Robert Fitzgerald.

I’m with you there, I can read for days on end. So this for me would be the choice to spend six months in solitary, and I think I’d kind of enjoy it too, lol.

My husband always says I should have married a library.
I feel like he’s trying to make a point …

I would sing. Not at performance level, I would still want to have a set of pipes when I got out. I know a whole bunch of songs and have been known to make one up every now and then, so I’ll be OK.

Okay, but keep it to a respectable noise level… I’ll be reading next door.

If you mean ‘Solitary’ as in Cell, I would Sing, Pray, and maybe even talk to Imaginary People. As long as I remember they are Imaginary, I would be okay.

Nothing, apparently after 28 days you will go insane. I once did a digital art progression of madness. Imagine being the innocent guy that spent 55 years in solitary.
