.
Work began on the living room door replacement and a plastic barrier against the cold was erected.
.

.
And as with every simple repair or renovation in my cursed housed, it didn’t go smoothly.
.

.
I was shooting through the plastic here, but you can tell once the carpet was pulled back, the sub floor was wet and damaged.
.

.
And once that was ripped up, it looked like the mice had been busy in the insulation.
.

.
Black mold?
Yup. That too.
.

.
On both sides of the bottom of the frame..
.

.
And on the top left.
More work. More time. More money. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised at this point, but I always am.
Sigh.
.

.
Lord Dudley Mountcatten?
He’s plotting how to get around the barrier and out the door to freedom.
.
i know it’s got to be frustrating and disappointing, but for health reasons, i’m glad to know that these things are being fixed for you, hubs, and his lordship. ❤

As am I.
But good grief… will it ever end?

Never saw a plastic barrier like that (but then, I don’t live in Maine). In my unprofessional opinion, the entrance might be better protected by an enclosed sun porch on the outside, which would not only prevent exposure to the weather, but not take up space on the inside (and probably would not be opposed by Lord Dudley).

The barrier is just a temporary aid to keep the cold air out while he works on the door. But the sun porch…. sure. We’ll get right on that.

Oh dang….but I suppose it was to be expected as the exterior door to your master is directly in front of this one. Is it me or is his Lordship’s cat butt getting a bit wider? LMAO

In a way it should have been expected that with less than great doors there would be water damage and where there is water damage along comes all the rest…this is the second time today that I am reading about mice living in insulation…not any comfort for you of course but it seems a common occurrence (?)

It is. The little devils burrow into everyone’s homes up here in the winter.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten is more likely trying to work out how he can get at those danged mice. 😉

How long have you lived in cursed house? Seems like it is time for it to behave itself and leave you alone.

We moved here in 2002.
More than ample time….

Dudley probably thinks you built all this stuff for him so he’d have places to play.

This is exactly why I won’t agree to the expensive, “proper”, bathtub faucet repair that was propsed today… I know it will immediately get 8billion times more complex and expensive! Plus, I don’t wanna switch from hot/cold/shower handles to an all-in-one and don’t understand why keeping the current layout was not an option.
If I’m going full upgrade, I’m gonna get one of those sets were you program the desired temp and the water sets itself!!

Which in my house would probably lead to the computer module malfunctioning and scalding showers.

That’s an impressive, seemingly impenetrable plastic barrier. When we were remodeling, ours was much flimsier. It was a daily battle to keep the rabbit out (no cats at that time, thank goodness).

The shot of His Lordship surveying the situation gives us hope at the end of the day…one of these days…the “curse” will finally be eradicated from his Kingdom.

I guess it’s better to have discovered the mold now as opposed to later…or never.
