.
Day two of our working weekend consisted of ripping up carpet…
.

.
Which was the easy part…
.

.
Until my husband hit the closet.
.

.
The padding was a bit harder to get up…
.

.
And it left all those nasty little sharp staples which needed to be pulled by hand.
.

.
The spots?
.

.
That would be blood.
Home renovations are dangerous dontcha know.
.

.
Next was the old baseboard trim, parts of which were damaged and all of which was beat up enough for us to decide we wanted new.
.

.
His Lordship?
.

.
Back in the bedroom sleeping with 3 mice on his scratchy post.
.

.
The day ended with a much needed second coat of ceiling paint and two seriously aching homeowners.
.
I hope none of that blood belongs to you or yours. Have you considered flattening the staples with a hammer? Once the pad goes down they’re good as gone. I’m an OK framer but trim is totally not my bag. Fine with me. My baseboards are three pieces and about eight inches high. Some places have holes cut through them for electrical outlets. I don’t know why, when there’s a perfectly good wall just above. So what’s our new carpet? Shag, crimson and gold? What’s not to love?

The blood was my husband’s. And we’re not putting carpet down… going with luxury vinyl plank so the staples had to go. Hence the blood.
Trim is a nightmare, which is why we hire someone to do it right.

Be sure to get some video of his lordship losing traction and getting sideways coming around the corner.

I’m sure there will be plenty of that!

Poor Hubs, I hope his staple pulling injury wasn’t too serious, yikes. Renovations are a bitch, and his Lordship looks like he’s about to pull a mutiny on the two of you….lol.

Nothing serious, just a few pokes and scratches. He’s not the most careful worker…

I feel for you. I definitely don’t envy you.

Well… what took the two of us two days would’ve taken our contractor four, so we figure we saved over $1,700. Worth a few achy muscles.

I’d like to but there are still too many projects on the list.

A definite oversight…

With the floor stripped down to plywood, suddenly your house looks like every Maine house for sale on Zillow…

If I wasn’t a thick skinned Yankee I might take offense at that statement…

I’ve seen one-bedroom houses in Maine with NO BATHROOMS… What do you people DO up there???

Contrary to popular belief most of us do have indoor plumbing. At least in southern Maine… when you’re up north in the county? Anything goes.

That is laborious work! I’m exhausted thinking about it all.
Can you imagine in 50 years when someone rips up the new flooring….they’re gonna think you guys were hiding a crime scene with all the blood. 🙂

The mere thought of someone replacing our as yet to be laid new floor makes me cringe, blood or no.

How do we know that’s his blood and not that of some wayward hitchhiker who checked into Casa River but never left?

I saw him bleed and had to doctor the cuts. Though there’s no telling who could be squatting in the basement…

I’m sure he’s well hidden behind all the piles of stuff down there.
