As much as I love to read, in general I’m not a fan of old books. While beautiful, the musty smell that usually accompanies them puts me off.
But I do have a small collection that belonged to my father and after reading this article I think I need to examine it more closely.

What they hell were they thinking?

Guess you don’t have to worry about mice nibbling them, but still.

Here’s an interesting article if you want to know more…

I only have one antique book and, thank goodness, it’s gray.

I love the smell of old books. One of the first things I want to do when we visit a new town is visit a good used bookstore. I don’t think you’re weird because of this but I’ve been wrong before.😊

I have three antique books but they are white and gray. But anything green younger than the early 20th century is safe I presume. And just like Kenny, I love the smell of old books.

I buy a lot of used books because I’m a voracious reader and they’re cheaper… but when I get a new one and crack it open for the first time?
Ahhh..

I’m sure they cost extra… but you get what you pay for.

Oh I think mice will chew on anything. I have many books that over a hundred years old – perhaps it’s time for them to go! Thanks for the info!

Someone in the library where I work opened up a box of old books that had gotten wet and had to be treated for exposure to toxic mold. So there’s another way old books can harm you, but you should be okay if you keep them dry.

Cathy’s library is in a college town with a largely older, well-off population. Their bookstore receives a lot of antique book donations. I told her about the arsenic paint on the book covers and she said she would be sure to pass that around to the rest of the staff. Thanks for passing that around to me.

It’s outweighed by my sense of self-preservation.
