.
We had a surprise visitor the other day.
It was a childhood friend of my husband’s from Connecticut who had stopped by my BIL’s and wanted to drop in to say hello.
.

.
After thoroughly checking out the husband’s new treasure, we moved into the man cave/Barn Mahal where I took a picture.

If you look closely… in between my husband and his friend, you’ll see a framed photo on the wall.

This photo, taken in Vietnam in 1968.

Three of those four men were reunited in our barn 56 years later.
That made my heart smile.

.
That sure is something. Pals for life. And the added ‘bonding experience ‘ of being through the Vietnam war together.
(I’m the same with my athletics club buddies from the early 1970s … though, Drumchapel in Glasgow may have been rough, it was not exactly Khe Sanh.)

It was a very odd happenstance that they all ran into each other that day in Vietnam. 4 young men from the same high school, 2 Army, 2 Marines… all in different units in different locations. What are the odds?

They have always been reunited. Once you serve with someone, miles and distance are irrelevant. The bond goes way deeper. Glad they had this moment!

That’s very true.

Do they share war stories late into the night, or never talk about those days? I’m just curious how that works.

A few remembrances of other vets, no stories. My husband has some horrible ones and doesn’t share them very often.

That’s lovely. Makes me smile as I’m sure it did your husband, too.

It was a very nice surprise. This participant calls my husband every Veterans Day.

And it’s funny because they are completely different people.

Oh my goodness. I love this. God bless those service men—they have seen and had to do things the rest of us could not handle. And there they are: Smiling. XOXO
