.
Should we take the old map that hangs over our living room mantle to the Antiques Roadshow if our ticket entry is chosen?
.

.
It’s a beautiful thing. Gifted to my parents for their wedding in 1958.
.

.
The date is 1792.
.

.
It has sea monsters…
.

.
As well as indigenous people…
.

.
And curious wildlife.
.

.
It appears hand colored and though I couldn’t find the exact same one online…
.

.
It could be worth a few bucks if original.
Problem?
I don’t think it is. The paper seems wrong, and on close inspection…
.

.
It has weird dots I can’t find on any other example.
I doubt it’s foxing…
And would rather not waste an Antique Roadshow opportunity on something that’s not an antique.
The search continues.
.
Good luck finding the right pieces! How many are you allowed?

Two items per ticket, two tickets… so, 4.

If we’re chosen in the sweepstakes, yes.

Are you and hubby each picking two things, or are you doing some combo of selecting items you both agree on?

I haven’t told him about it yet. His birthday is later this month so I’m giving him the entry form as a gift. I’m sure we’ll have long discussions on what to take…

I’m hoping that the object you take is something awkward to carry and so fabulous the show comes to a halt, appreciating your item.

I’d rather it be less awkward, but thanks.

I’m hoping for weird farming implements. Big ones. That will free up space!

Only temporarily, as the implements would come right back home.

What if they got lost or someone offered you a good price?

But really, the K-Mart sticker on the back was the true dead giveaway!

It would be a lot easier to pick if that were true.

Actually that paper may be parchment or rice paper … which I think would increase the value. I love old maps but I’m definitely not an expert.

The dots are troubling me. I don’t want to bring something pretending to be old…

The map itself looks genuine, the poles are very unlike today’s reality. All the tidbits around the globes are very well done. You have 4 takes. Unless you already have your mind made up (I expect you do) I would not put this one way just yet. You still have time to change your mind.

The map itself does, yes. But those dots are on the entire thing and makes me think someone was trying to make a reprint look old and original.

Wow, you really have an eye for this. I would know an original from a reproduction if it slapped me in the face.

I know a little, but not nearly enough.
