I just draw the outline points – often turns out a bit wonky. Or I draw 2 overlapping triangles so there’s 6 points.

1-4-2-5-3-1 if I am drawing this type of star. If I am drawing a Movie/TV Star, I just throw some ink on the paper and see if it looks close. Usually it is a perfect match.
