Remember when I said I hated digital health care?

.

I’m changing that to despise.

After receiving worrying numbers on my blood tests, I waited for my primary doctor to contact me.

And waited.

And waited…

I called, but she wasn’t there.

I asked for a call back, but she never did.

So I succumbed to the technology I hate and sent her a message on the infernal digital portal.

.

.

Their statement…

.

.

At the end of the second day?

I got this.

.

.

Which puzzled and pissed me off… until I realized it fulfilled their two day time limit on answers and probably saved them grief from the powers that be.

Didn’t help me any though.

The next day?

This…

.

.

Let me get this straight…

I was sick, so I went to the doctors.

They drew blood to see why I was sick.

The results came back abnormal and the reason they give…. is because I was sick?

What kind of twisted medical merry go round is that? I know I was sick, that’s why I went and had blood drawn.

WTF?

Abnormal, but no reason given.

Abnormal, but not abnormal enough to worry.

It’s a good thing I’ve started to feel better by myself because they certainly weren’t helpful.

😡

  1. Wow, that’s way worse than the medical portal I use, because I can send a message and one of the medical assistants will message me back or call me. I’m pretty sure that it’s an AI generated message because, it sure as hell sounds like it. So, I have to ask, you don’t have any Telehealth services where you can get someone to read your blood work results? I’d be super pissed too if I got that response, surely you’d think doctors are smart enough to know that not everyone wants to navigate this electronic medical nightmare and have a real person there to help. Ugh, so annoying 🤬.

    1. If I was still feeling sick I’d pitch a bitch. But I have to go in for my annual physical next month anyway, so I’m going to try and switch primaries then. I never had this issue with my previous doctor.

  2. I hate it when they don’t get back within 48 hours. My PCP is very good about responding or having her office respond within hours. But the specialists? Orthopedics, for example? It took forever for them to respond, and that’s to an MRI that showed torn connective tissues and a whole host of Very Bad Things.

  3. You gotta march back into the office I think and insist on proper diagnosis and treatment.

It happens in Canada too. One of our massage therapists came home with a tick. He pulled it out and went to the doctor worried about Lyme disease. Standard practice is a course of antibiotics. Doctor says he’s worried about his gut flora, go home and don’t worry. Patient said he hasn’t been on antibiotics for years, he’d feel better getting a course. Answer was no.

Remember, this is a guy we know, not some hearsay story…

15 days later he passes out. Next time he wakes up is in hospital, ICU, full-blown Lyme disease. Pumped full of – you guessed it – antibiotics. His wife said he almost died.

Sometimes the narrow-mindedness or administrative overwhelm (or a combination of both) of some of these doctors causes more harm than good. It’s so unfortunate…

Trust your gut. Advocate for yourself. I wish you all the best in this unfortunate journey.

      1. If you’re reasonably sure you’re tick free it’s probably not necessary. I mean, I don’t think you walk through bush when you feed your critters… Either way, I hope you feel better very soon.

  4. Oh lord. That is so darn weird. And frustrating!! I’m glad you’re feeling better because otherwise, this would be worrisome for sure!
