Boom!

.

We woke up to this the other morning.

.

.

Our mailbox used to live there.

.

.

But the mailbox was on the driveway.

.

.

Along with pieces and parts of our busted post.

.

.

My husband called the sheriffs department, sure that nefarious vandals with sledgehammers were responsible.

.

.

Of course, a long conversation took place once the officer arrived …

.

.

Complete with a visit to the man cave/Barn Mahal before the investigation started.

.

.

But it soon became clear my husband’s club wielding delinquent theory was incorrect.

.

.

And the simpler explanation of a drunken, speeding driver was to blame.

.

.

The evidence… a broken side mirror… was found in our ditch.

🥴

  1. The fact that your husband got to show off the man cave is the only positive in this story. Malicious vandal, drunken driver, or irresponsible and cowardly distracted driver – any of those are very bad indeed. I must know: what did your mail deliverer say/think/do? How did (s)he adapt?

  2. This us to happen a lot before I moved into the big wicked city, the community mailboxes were introduced in the late 90’s. My neighborhood is older, it was established in the late 60’s so my mailbox is the inside of my property line and fenced in. But my son’s neighborhood was built in 2010’s and he has a community mail box that he has to walk a block and a half to get his mail because of crap like this. So, why exactly did the Hubs need to show the Sherriff his Man Cave? lol

  3. We’ve had that happen four times! Only once was a speeding drunk driver. He was a prominent doctor and so paid all the damages. The other times the culprit never came forward. It’s frustrating. I’m amazed the police are on the case!

  4. Wow. That’s kind of scary! Years ago my brother’s mailbox kept getting knocked off or shot! It turns out someone stole his briefcase out of his car and it happened to have a very large check in it. It turned the stolen briefcase into a felony and jail time. The guy’s buddies weren’t happy with my brother for pressing charges.

  5. Oh my goodness. Your poor mailbox!

At our old house, where our mailbox was located, there was a small swerve into the road at our driveway, and I can’t tell you how many mailbox casualties we had over 27 years. Thirteen? Fifteen? It’s like people were not even looking, and missed the curve.

Looks like another adventure for you two!
