Cocktails at the Asylum…

Because when I hear there’s an old psychiatric hospital that’s been turned into a hotel and bar?

You know I have to go…

img_2553

Sitting on the highest point in Jerome, Arizona… I knew it was my type of place as soon as we walked in.

Talk about repurposing.

The restaurant was attractive.

img_2512

With whimsical…

img_2510

And authentic hospital antique touches.

img_2515

The bar had a sense of humor as well..

img_2516

But having learned my lesson with absinthe, I bypassed the Sazerac…

img_2517

Started with the mule…

img_2518

And then moved on to the sangria…

img_2525

So, my lunch was a little liquid. Don’t judge….

img_2523

We, the committed… started with soup.

img_2526

At least the husband did. I can’t abide squash, souped or otherwise.

img_2531

To be honest, the meal was mediocre at best..

img_2521

But we enjoyed the atmosphere and the view.

img_2528

See that little building in the middle of the picture? It was the original church of Jerome… and since Jerome was a mining town? It was built out of dynamite boxes.

The rest rooms were interesting….

img_2534

And kept the haunted theme going….

img_2532

Probably further than they should.

Here’s a photo of the original building.

img_2538

And one of the original patients?

Could be.

It was that kind of place…

img_2541

After lunch we roamed around and explored.

img_2542

And saw how the locals did their drinking back in the day.

img_2543

Please note the hanging towels and buckets on this side of the bar.

Were you required to clean up your own vomit back then…?

The husband loved all the antiques…

img_2544

And I found a tacky gift store that was worth a laugh.

img_2546

Though unfortunately I missed the opportunity to buy genuine dinosaur poo.

img_2547

Which is clearly more popular than their bones.

A day late and a dollar short, that’s me.

img_2549

As we made our way outside the husband spotted this antique torture device.

img_2552

He told me it was a washing machine, to which I replied…

Same thing.

    1. I didn’t. And I don’t want one now….
Unless it’s the name of a very potent cocktail.
Jerome was fun, if I hadn’t been with the husband I would have spent the afternoon happily shopping their quirky downtown area.

  1. Oh my gosh! I love this place! I think I need to go! And I’m thinking the hanging towels and buckets in the old time bar might have been for tobacco spitting or um…relieving oneself without having to leave the bar? Ugh!

  2. You promised me a werewolf and you made good on your promise! I love it! I’m ready for a Mad House Margarita now, though that Sangria looked pretty yummy! What a cool place. Is it supposed to be haunted, though? Did the waitstaff have any stories? Mona
