.
Fall is tree pruning time and since our two mature apples and one small crabapple were in desperate need, we hired a professional arborist.
.
.
That’s him tackling the out of control crabapple.
.
.
And that’s him strapped onto a branch thinning out our (probably 45 year old) Macintosh.
.
.
There were branches everywhere by the end of the day.
.
.
Which made me glad clean up was included in the price.
.
.
Crabapple before, with a 2×4 holding up a broken section.
.
.
Crabapple after. It looks positively naked, but he assured us it would fill back in nicely next spring.
.
.
Mature apples before.
.
.
Mature apple trees after. The lighting is bad, but trust me… they were thinned out considerably and are probably breathing a sigh of relief as we speak.
.
.
The arborist was here for 5 hours and did a wonderful job trimming and cleaning up. He even raked the lawn.
(The pear tree was also pruned, but I forgot to snap pics.)
Cost?
$400…. which I think was very reasonable.
.
In South Florida, 5 hours by a professional arborist would easily be $1000. He did a great job!

I need to prune my two also. They are 4′ tall. I think I can manage it. LOL

I certainly don’t need one of those!

When the Derecho flew through Iowa and destroyed everything in its wake last year, we spent thousands for little more than what you described. That guy is a gem! Be sure to give him some apples!

We offered. He has his own.

That’s a great job he did. I mean, the hubs and his chainsaw are no match lol.

The hubs and his chainsaw are a marriage made in hell.

So glad you were able to get someone! I hope your husband appreciated his work, too.

He grumbled a bit at first, but was pleased with the results.

That is a nice job for a reasonable price. After sliding over rotting apples and trying to mow over them, dropped by two old and out-of-control trees at the edge of my yard, I think I’ll be searching for a local arborist to trim back some limbs next year.

Ours are beautiful in bloom, but they were getting pretty wild.

Wow only $400. That’s is good.

Father Time gave me a haircut and left my limbs intact, although he did hand out a few close shaves over the years. He must get a kick out of making heads bald, because otherwise, it was a fruitless endeavor

Yes, but are you dormant every winter…?

That seems like a very reasonable price to have the job done right. Sometimes, that’s what you need.

I’m just thankful I talked the husband out of doing it. That’s priceless.

That seems extremely reasonable. When it comes to pruning special trees, it pays to get a professional.

The best part is my husband liked him so much he agreed to let him do it every two years as recommended.
