An unwelcome visitor.

.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten alerted to us to a new visitor at Casa River the other day….

.

.

And I can’t say I was pleased.

.

.

In the 20 years we’ve lived here, we’ve never had a rat.

Until now.

.

.

I shouldn’t be surprised. We live in the country with horses for neighbors on both sides and an organic farm across the street.

.

.

But as much as I love all the wild creatures who stop by for a nosh?

.

.

Having a rat dig a tunnel and move into our woodshed will not be tolerated.

.

.

Because if there’s one… there could be one hundred next month.

Sorry bud, but your days are numbered.

  1. I came face to face with a rat a few months ago (not close, but climbing through the bushes nearby). I looked into his eyes and felt guilty thinking he should be dead. What a terrible dilemma. If we were starving in Africa we’d be thankful and eat him probably.

  2. Hmmm….not sure I’m a fan either.
I have a dear friend (and she’s mostly sane) who has two pet rats. She (and her family) swears they are the best pets!
    I’m not buying what she’s selling…

  3. Ugh. Hate rates. Once had them living in the walls of a house I owned near Seattle (where they are a common nuisance in crawl spaces, attics, garages, etc.). They came in through vents in my house’s siding. I could hear their little babies mewling in the wall behind my bed. Arrgghhh! Like you, I don’t want to kill creatures, but…I set traps for these rats when I realized they were eating their way through walls/flooring into the space beneath my kitchen sink. One can tolerate only so much! Rats, stay outside!
