.
Lord Dudley Mountcatten alerted to us to a new visitor at Casa River the other day….
.

.
And I can’t say I was pleased.
.

.
In the 20 years we’ve lived here, we’ve never had a rat.
Until now.
.

.
I shouldn’t be surprised. We live in the country with horses for neighbors on both sides and an organic farm across the street.
.

.
But as much as I love all the wild creatures who stop by for a nosh?
.

.
Having a rat dig a tunnel and move into our woodshed will not be tolerated.
.

.
Because if there’s one… there could be one hundred next month.
Sorry bud, but your days are numbered.
.
Wanna borrow my cat? He hates them.

Dudley hasn’t seen him yet. Though it’s too cold to let him out to hunt.

I’ll bet now you’re thankful for Red Squirrel. She is the least of the two Evils.

Not thankful, but less creeped out.

Ick. Not a fan of rats, I don’t care how cute Disney or whoever tries to make them.

I came face to face with a rat a few months ago (not close, but climbing through the bushes nearby). I looked into his eyes and felt guilty thinking he should be dead. What a terrible dilemma. If we were starving in Africa we’d be thankful and eat him probably.

I’ve never killed a creature, but this could go bad very quickly.

Better the yard than the house . . . but still. Not sure I’d want him as a neighbor.

We definitely don’t.

Hmmm….not sure I’m a fan either.
I have a dear friend (and she’s mostly sane) who has two pet rats. She (and her family) swears they are the best pets!
I’m not buying what she’s selling…

I’ve heard that as well, but I’m in no hurry to have this one in the house.

Ugh. Hate rates. Once had them living in the walls of a house I owned near Seattle (where they are a common nuisance in crawl spaces, attics, garages, etc.). They came in through vents in my house’s siding. I could hear their little babies mewling in the wall behind my bed. Arrgghhh! Like you, I don’t want to kill creatures, but…I set traps for these rats when I realized they were eating their way through walls/flooring into the space beneath my kitchen sink. One can tolerate only so much! Rats, stay outside!

If critters take up residence in the house, all bets are off.

Your cat’s name still makes me laugh every time I see it 🙂

Thanks. And yet my husband still hates it and refuses to use it. Go figure.
