.
I live in Maine.
Our governor is a Democrat named Janet Mills.
And this is what I saw in a restaurant parking lot the other day.
.

.
How nice.
Without getting political, let me just say two things. I dislike Donald Trump. Vehemently and absolutely, but you will never see a F*ck Trump sticker on my car or a F*ck Trump sign in my yard.
I believe in a two party system and am mature enough to embrace free spirited debate and opposing views. I can agree to disagree.
But the current climate of outright hatred and vulgarity that’s taken over our political discourse disgusts me. There’s no need of this. Children do not need to learn disrespect from the rear window of a passing car.
And speaking of vulgarity?
I received a comment on a video I posted on YouTube last week.
.

.
I have no idea who Dick is, but I’m guessing the name fits him perfectly.
Maybe I’m getting old, but common courtesy and decency seem to be in short supply these days.
.
short supply? I think it’s LONG gone.

Being a little to the right of Atilla the Hun, I am used to recieving slurs. But you are right. As much as I hate Clinton and Biden, I refused to use those slurs. Poorly applied vulgarity really is offensive.
When I made my stripes, the 1st Sargent seldom used vulgarity. And when he did, all you saw was very busy A’s and E’s. (Butts and Elbows)
Oddly, I can find no term for the practice. There should be.

Our world can decline at this rate and prosper. It’s all coming to an end.

I hope not. There are still good, decent people, unfortunately the other kind are louder.

I’m with you, I can’t say I dislike Trump that would be too mild a word. But I won’t go around with any sticker on my car that says just how much I hate the bastard. Ooopps, did I say hate?
Well that’s how I feel, and that’s how it’s going to stay within the confines of my own beliefs and mind. Now I’ll just get on with my shingles and work until I pass out….lol

He probably drives that truck to church every Sunday. I think Covid rotted the brains of many people and robbed them of the ability to reason.

I can’t even imagine seeing something like that when I was young. I hate to sound old, but damn.

We’re more alike than you might think, especially on the political side. 🙄

Although I WHOLE heartedly agree with you (not on the Trump thing, as I believe Biden is a first class asshole), but my love of the 1st amendment far outweighs my feelings on what I think is appropriate. Free speech is protected no matter how vulgar or insensitive. Feelings are not.

I’m all for free speech. Express your opinion, wherever and when ever you choose. My feelings weren’t hurt, it’s just unnecessary vulgarity… and it says a lot about who we are right now.

Was hardly questioning your feelings. You demonstrate you are tough through your blog. I agree, we are not in a good place, and seem to be diving lower and lower as time marches on.

It’s funny, but I can actually remember a time when we didn’t know our friends’ political views. Or care to be honest. It seems so long ago….

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, told a story once of a lesson his father, the late Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, taught him when he once,as a child, made fun of the head of the opposition. He said attack the policies not the person. Wise words I think.

Exactly. It’s the lesson we learned after the Vietnam War. Protest the policy, not the soldier.

I am going to disagree with you to a point. Requiring “common decency”gives power to swear words. Make the swearwords common, and no one will notice them.
But Trump can never be “common” because he thinks he has power. Using his name IS a vulgarity all on its own! Dump Trump in a Trump Dump!

Some swear words are already too common for my taste…

Taste being the key word. You were brought up to have taste. I brought myself up, forced to survive until I could leave home. There was no time for taste. Taste was for people brought up in safety.

I think the supply chain broke a while back. I began to believe that everyone just competes to see who can be uglier as a person. As a result, I stopped paying attention because it’s easier not to than to spend all day wanting to yell at people for being self-centered twits.

And lately, that competition is fierce.

I see f@ck on bumperstickers now, too. Language changes and my understanding is that younger people no longer think the word is as vulgar as it once was so it’s okay to use it. I am on the fence about that idea.

I’m not a prude and I’ve certainly used the word more than I should, but aren’t there better ways to express political opinions?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yes there are, but I think some people count on shock value to sell their ideas, rather than, you know, reasoning and morals and stupid stuff like that. 😉

In my Rapid City neighborhood, there was a house that displayed a F@CK Biden flag 24/7. On a busy street where little kids play, ride bikes, set up lemonade stands. Politics aside, and I’m no prude, but there is no place for that in a family friendly neighborhood.
Politics un-aside, F@CK that family and their beliefs.

I’m all for flying your flag, so to speak. But preferably without the vulgarity on prominent display.

I totally agree with you. I lost High School Friends because of my political views which is ridiculous. People should not end a friendship because we believe differently. Obviously, they weren’t really friends. Plus, it’s sad we can’t wear clothing, have Bumper Stickers,etc.. backing our choices, in fear of getting beat up or killed. I think our Freedom -Of-Speech is pretty well, over.
