.
The back half of the driveway was done and paving moved to the front.
.

.
Which means the big machine was put into play. If you’ve never seen the process, it really is kind of fascinating.
.
.
Before long they were at the road end.
.

.
And the wheelbarrow brigade was back in action.
.

.
Fill, dump, spread.
Repeat.
.

.
When they’d made us a nice entrance…
.

.
The final smoothing commenced.
.
.
A little more on the edges…
.

.
And they were stringing the don’t drive on me for a week! sign.
.

.
Which surprised me because we were originally told to let it set for 3.
Either way, it looks good.
.

.
And a damn sight better than it did.
Before and after pics to come.
.
Looks amazing!

Ooh, it looks smooth as butter, and that little bump-out is the perfect place to put Bobbie when we come visit. 😉
Did you put your footprints in the tar and use a stick to write “River was here”?

I did not.
Though it was tempting…

I would have thought they would have “curbed” the edges? I guess that would be an “extra”…a $10,000 extra, no doubt.

I wish they had, but no.

Watching a paver is fascinating. I did it for years. Then a guy fell face first into the hot bituminous and that kind of ruined for me….

Holy crap!
Did he survive?

No. The asphalt pretty much burned him unlivable.

That is a nice driveway, it better be for what you paid for it, lol. Only to cure for a week? Dang, that’s actually fast but it looks like they did a great job. Ethel will love it!

Our neighbor waited three, and so will we. It’s so hot now I’m not taking chances.

We live in a lovely section of rural Maine. Not much improvement needed.

I cannot believe the speed of the vehicles passing by on the road ehile workers were walking around doing paving things. The first picture of the guy smoothing out the driveway backing onto the road was a near miss.
How much did this cost you guys? For the number of labourers snd truck drivers and the eqiipment involved, it doesn’t seem that expensive after all. And technicslly they aren’t done till they pick up their sign and cones at the end of the week.
I am wondering if they sdded the four days because of how wet the base was. Any oressure on the driveway could cause it to compress wet soil underneath.
Last question: Can hubby wait a week to drive on it. I’m betting not.

We paid almost $20,000.
Unfortunately in front of our house is one of the few straightaways on the entire road. People fly by.
Hubby will have to wait 3 weeks to drive on it. That’s what the project manager originally told us and it’s so hot right now I’m not taking a chance to ruin it.

Analyzing all the costs, and the other things, I don’t think that cost is too unreasonable. As long as it lasts. Good luck with it.

Time will tell. Nothing lasts long …. or stays in place here. Doors don’t close, windows stick, cracks appear over night. Live in Maine and you soon realize how much the earth shifts underneath us.

I don’t remember anything like that when I lived in New Brunswick, but I wasn’t a home owner, so probably would not have noticed.

Maine is constantly shifting. Our friend’s lake house moved 3 inches to the right last year and they had to redo everything.

In 3 weeks. But it has to have good brakes.

It is a sight of beauty!
Not sure why, but I thought your driveway was much longer and your home setback further since you have such a big piece of land. AND I remember what your driveway price was $$. I guess it’s better that your driveway wasn’t longer.

I always wanted a longer driveway… until we got the estimate for this.
Most of our property is out back. The front lawn is small in comparison.

Ya know, it’s a good thing you’ve got so many photos and these blogs. One, they would have probably taken more care seeing you snapping away, and two, if something happens to it you’ve got records of the process.

I take photos of everything, all the time. I think it stems from not having many of my father….
