As you know, we’ve had a wet summer in Maine. For a while there it was literally raining every other day. And though that’s kept our grass a lovely green it also makes for saturated ground that can’t absorb a random downpour … which is what happened the other day.
.

.
I know my blog name is River, but I really didn’t want to see one flowing past my kitchen landing.
.

.
It was a crazy amount of water.
.

.
And before long it was creeping right into the garage.
.

.
We’ve never had this happen before and I’m beginning to wonder if the new smooth driveway is funneling it through the path of least resistance.
.
.
Thankfully it was gone in an hour or two, but I’m glad I didn’t have to go out, that’s shoe ruining water right there.
🥴
Holy buckets! Buckets of rain, that is.

A few buckets too many I’m afraid…

I keep on telling you we need that rain in Northern Canada. We would gladly take if off your hands. But Americans are so greedy. They hate sharing. See what happens when you don’t share? You get too much!

I hope nothing was damaged. It would suck if it’s the driveway. I hope it was just a combo of saturation and extra storm!

Oh my goodness. That’s a whole lot of rain water. Do you really suppose the slope of the new driveway is to blame?

It’s the first time something like that has happened… and the driveway is the only new addition.

The new driveway is a likely contender – impervious sealed surfaces of urban areas are contributors to flashy flooding because there’s no soil to soak it up. Saying that, I learned of ‘groundwater mounds’ the other day. Check that out for interest. There’s the ditch extension too.

Holy downpour, that is a heck of a lot of puddling going on there. And it probably is the new driveway.
