Window replacement project, day two… things did not improve.

.

When I left you yesterday, one window had been installed, and clearly it had issues.

.

.

Many calls were made by our contractor to the store, the supplier and the company rep, but while he waited for answers he decided to replace the other window of the exact same size to see if the same issue cropped up.

This being our house, of course it did.

.

.

The framing was measured six ways to Sunday before installation and all was well. Plum, level and perfect.

.

.

Yet when the new window was plopped in, there was a similar gap on the side. Our contractor is flummoxed. So much so, he called other carpenter friends for advice, but everything they told him to do… he’d already done.

Did I mention the husband is not pleased and kept going in to help (read… talk the ears off) the contractor?

.

.

It was beyond aggravating… and at the end of the day we had two new expensive windows in the bedroom, neither of which were airtight.

.

.

But hey…there was an extra long shim in place that did double duty as a clock shelf , so it wasn’t a total loss.

😩

  1. When were the original measurements made? I’m thinking, our old houses shift with weather… We’ve had issues with door frames for this reason. Is it possible things shifted in the time they first measured and now?

What a pain in the ass… I’m sorry you have to navigate this.

    1. Our house has definitely shifted over the years during giant frost heaves and freezes…but I doubt it did in the space of time the measurements were taken (July) to now….
And that’s exactly what it is. A pain in the ass.

      1. Up 8n Cahada we don’t sue people, for the most part, but it seems to be a great American passtime. We jyst phone up the offehding company and try to work something out. Usually most are willing to take responsibility for shoddy products if you threaten to go to the newspapers.

      2. Save the earful until you find out what they are offering. If their reputation is at stake they may fear you spreading your experience and make you a bona fide offer. An earful right off the bat could kill that offer. Having ssid that, if they are trying to squirm out of it, make them squirm like worms…

  2. Not on topic but to give you a laugh, I wrote this for you –

There once was a lady from Maine
Who found internet tracking a pain
    In an innocent search
    For some random merch
Had her wailing not pickles again!
