Another major project. Sigh…

.

This is a front section of our home.

.

.

It has a ridiculous, utterly useless front porch.

.

.

Purely for decorative purposes…

It’s old.

.

.

The wood is rotted..

.

.

The railing is out dated..

.

.

And as you can see…

.

.

The posts have sunken and hold up exactly nothing.

The previous owner, who instead of fixing it just added little filler squares of wood and caulked, left us with a mess. Thankfully the posts are not load bearing.

Which wasn’t the case when we torn down the kitchen porch a decade ago… as evidenced by this FB memory that popped up the other day.

.

.

Clearly we like to live dangerously at Casa River.

.

.

But back to the ridiculously small front porch.

It was next on the list for our contractor… tear down, dress up and replace. Except now the contractor is too busy with other jobs and doesn’t know when he’ll be able to get to it.

.

.

So you know who has decided he’ll replace it.

Yes.

My husband, king of the jerry rigged construction projects said, “No problem.” which we all know is a lie. It will be a big problem from start to finish because I want a decent front porch, small and useless as it might be.

Stay tuned.

This one will probably last all summer.

🥴

  1. Your “porch” looks about as useful as the kitchen “counter” we had when we bought the house. There was one built-in floor-to-ceiling cabinet. Along the front it had a 6″ x 5′ “counter” that looked like it could be used as an assembly line for sandwiches but nothing else. Even better, it turned out to be holding up the ceiling. It was gone as soon as I ripped out the cat pee-stained carpeting in the living and dining rooms.

      1. On second look, the porch seems perfect for standing there, leaning on the railing, and looking cool. That top rail looks flat enough to set your drink on. Maybe you need to wear a cowboy hat when you do it.

  2. Who thought about even making that a porch back in the day….it’s too small for anything. So silly.

Good lord, I hope he doesn’t hurt himself on this project!
