I haven’t written a front porch progress report lately because we had a good bit of rain and a few days of serious yard work that stalled construction temporarily.

But the husband is back at it… deciding that old warped middle frame board he tried so hard to save needed to be replaced after all.

New boards …

New braces…

He’s making his way down the line.

And started playing with the new composite decking .
I’m calling it progress.

No. We’d have to rip up all my shrubs and landscaping as well as redo the roof line. That’s a bridge too far.

Looking good! Did he have to replace the center board because of structural issues? ie the center board couldn’t be straight all the way to the end?

Yes. He was hoping he could straighten and save it, but it wasn’t possible.

Looks good, but I’m wondering why he didn’t put flat 2×6’s under the bottom support to keep them from cutting into the earth and possibly ruining the level true from end to end? Just curious?

I think he’s basically just replacing what was there. Copying the previous framing. Like I keep saying, he’s not a carpenter.
