.
Our neighbor called at 7:30 last night and screamed at us to “Go outside right now!”. From the tone of her voice I figured we were being invaded by herds of rabid moose… but when I stepped off the front porch steps ?
.

.
Wow.
.

.
I’m 60 years old and have never seen the Northern Lights in person..
.

.
And there they were, right over our house.
.

.
Again, wow.
.

.
My photos don’t do them justice..
.

.
But the husband and I stood out on the lawn like total weirdos snapping pictures for half an hour.
.

.
It was a truly magical experience.
.

.
I’m not sure I completely understand what causes the phenomenon …
.

.
But I thoroughly enjoyed it all the same.

Spectacular!! Not weirdos at all. Anyone who didn’t do that would be a weirdo in my book. A friend in England recently posted a picture of the Northern Lights for the first time. Maybe they’re being active in unexpected places/ways right now?? Awesome neighbor. Thank her/him for me.

They weren’t here long. Started to fade after 40 minutes or so…

Perfect. My neck starts hurting at 30 minutes.

Yes, there’s currently another super strong solar flare. Those of us too south to see them (I’m near Los Angeles) may still experience issues with electronics/wifi/etc.

All the pain, none of the joy. Perfect.

I tried a video with my phone but it didn’t work….
Our lights didn’t undulate like a wave. They were stationary and eventually just faded..

Wild! I haven’t heard of that before.
I’m really happy that you got to see them. Younowe that neighbor a favor!!

Lucky you! We were told to go outside and saw some red tinged clouds. then people told us “well, you can only see if by taking pictures on your phone.” Really!!!!

Ours were visible with the naked eye, but they did show up brighter on the photos.

Love your photos. The colors are astounding. We were too far south to see the lights, but seeing your pics makes up for it.

Just gorgeous! And Otis looks like a firebird, framed against that sky.

WAY better than rabid moose! Around here they said they’d be visible just before dawn…wouldn’t you know, that would be the first morning I slept until dawn in weeks.

Of course it was.
We would have missed them completely if the neighbor hadn’t called!

Wow, that is a once in a lifetime shot! And Otis is very spectacularly in the forefront at that.

That’s too bad. Sorry you weren’t able to see it in person…

The pictures were spectacular and I could understand being so overwhelmed you’d stay out there even after they faded. Also thank you for the informational graphic. I thought red auroras were more rare than green and that confirms it.

We up in the Norhhlands have had nothing but clouds at night for weeks. Not a Northern Light to be seen. It just isn’t natural!

No northern lights in the north is very wrong.

I think it’s down to vodka 😂 Stunning photos. We went to Finland to see them some years ago and, although they do undeniably look much better through the camera lens, there is something spiritual about ‘being there’.

It looks so unreal in photos, I can’t imagine seeing that in person. WOW. I hope to see them myself one day.
Our ‘hood in GA actually saw them too…sadly, I was in Florida fighting a damn hurricane. 😢
