If we get picked to go to the Antique Roadshow taping in Maine this summer, I want to bring something unusual.
Something you haven’t seen a hundred times before.
This might fit the bill…
.

.
My father was of Scottish ancestry, but born and raised in England. This framed print was passed down through his family and though it doesn’t currently hang in our home…. it is interesting.
.

.
Mine is clearly hand colored.
.

.
And the only other one I could find on line is in the National Portrait Gallery.
.

.
A distinct Roadshow possibility…
👍

Lord Charles Henry Somerset is quite the dude, destined for bigger things?

As long as it’s definitely original and not a print it’s as good as gold

That’s the question.

Or a degree of a print. If its a print made by the artist as opposed to commercial mass produced then it might still becworth something.

I like the fact that you’re giving this some thought before the event. I like this, and I think it’s interesting enough to warrant some discussion on the show.

To my eye it looks old, but what do I know?

What you want to find out is that he only printed 50 of these and 49 were destroyed in a fire.

That would be nice.

The fact that you have a plethora of family heirlooms to choose from is amazing in itself. Let’s see…I have my mom’s artificial hip and a pair of my dad’s boxing gloves. How about turntable and speakers from 1972?

Did dad knock out Ali with those gloves? You never know…

No, he was over 40 the first time he saw Ali box as an amateur at age 17. A bit past his prime, as well as wrong weight class – dad boxed at 135, Ali at that time at 178. I know, you didn’t really want to know that. When I was given the gloves I was told they were the pair he wore for one of his NCAA championships. Nothing in writing, only my dead mom’s word to go by, and probably not worth anything outside of the family anyway.

Lightweight is my favorite class. So many great boxers there…
My husband had an uncle who ranked 4th in the world as a featherweight in the 40’s, but WWII interfered. How far back is that? He fought Willie Pep.

Willie Pep was several years younger than my dad. I remember his name but I can’t say I actually remember seeing him box.

Me neither. I just know the name…

So, it’s not hanging up yet? Yeah, definitely get it’s worth before you hang it. It might make a good story for visitors.

I had it hanging in our old house … but it’s been in the closet for a while now.

But why isn’t it on your wall?

It’s a cool thing. I think it should be on show. Mind you, I am notoriously without knowledge in such things…

I’ll take it under advisement.

It looks in excellent condition which should help! Often the colors fade.

It looked at first like an armless horseman.
