I’m gonna need a ladder.

.

9 weeks after we ordered it and were told it would be delivered in two weeks, it arrived.

.

.

Our beautiful new, oh so expensive mattress.

.

.

Is it wonderful?

.

.

Boy howdy is it ever.

Firm, but luxuriously soft… I’ve never slept better.

But what it also is….

.

.

Is heavy. Can’t say I’m looking forward to sheet change day.

It’s also tall.

So tall it swamps the headboard and makes arranging the comforter a challenge.

.

.

If I pull it down far enough to meet the bed skirt at the foot…

.

.

There’s a gap at the head.

I’m a short person y’all.

And even though we bought the super short accompanying box spring, the frame of our old bed raises it so high I literally half to climb in or fling myself on it from a running start at night.

.

.

Now I know why people buy new beds when they purchase new mattresses these days. No box spring ( or ladder) required.

  1. LOL, I recognize that mattress pattern. I have long legs (and a short torso), which means I had no trouble getting into our four poster when our huge mattress arrived (we also got the low profile box spring). However, even though my husband tops me by a few inches, his legs are shorter. So he dug out one of our son’s old step stools and put it by his side of the bed. And yes, that mattress is CRAZY heavy. But worth it!

  2. Get rid of the frame. Set the boxspring on the floor, and the mattress atop that. You will sleep just as wonderfully without having to worry about broken bones if you happen to fall out of bed!

      1. In that case, you may need to spend time on the rack to get stretched until you’re taller. Or you could cut holes in the floor for the legs to make the bed lower. 😉 No need to thank me for these brilliant suggestions. Never mind, I’ll find my own way out.

  3. I prefer a high bed – my current set-up has me 28 inches from the floor. I think the old king size bed might have been a little higher but then my husband was 6’6″ tall and all our furniture was high – and big. I’ve come to prefer it that way.

  4. That was me & my last mattress!! I literally crawled onto it! The height, with pending knee surgery, was a major reason that I finally but the bullet and ordered a new, lower mattress (kept the frame & 9″ boxspring.

From experience, I’d say you’re gonna haaaate lifting the mattress to put on new sheets! I got a wedge tool, but it didn’t help… still requires back strength.

But, maaaan, that looks SO comfy!!

  5. Our new bed arrived last week and I, too, now need a ladder to get in and out of it. Don’t know which brand you bought, we went with Stearns & Foster, but apparently thick mattresses are the deal now.

      1. That would be hilarious! Talk about starting the day with a spring in your step. Just be sure, at night time, you don’t get overzealous and launch yourself into the far wall.

  6. I love that you are sleeping well, and it’s so comfortable; that makes the $$ easier to swallow. Are you sure you even needed a box spring with this one? Nowadays, they usually do the mattress alone.

But hey, at least you’re getting some last minute exercise before sleep!
