I like day lilies.
.

.
They’re a joyous burst of color.
.

.
And basically care free.
.

.
Plant them and forget them.
.

.
Until they bloom.
.

.
And then be sorry the show is so fleeting.

I also love to see them burst open 🙂

Some of them are so pretty.
Why isn’t there a week or month lily…?
😊

I know right 🙂 Look for different varieties that may bloom 2 weeks apart and keep doing that and slowly you will have your month.

Are there any animals prone to eating them? Asking for a friend who’s had bad luck on that front with flowers…

Nobody eats mine, and we have lots of visiting critters.

I’ll see if A) the Missus would consider them and B) if they’ll even grow in our region

They’re pretty hardy. Other than the desert Southwest…

Deer seem to find them irresistible. We had a whole bunch of daylilies in our yard, and they were covered with buds, and we were looking forward to seeing them bloom… but the deer utterly destroyed them as soon as they did.

Well, deer are one vermin problem I don’t have! 😉

And yet we have a deer family who visit every day and never touch them.
You must have a tastier variety…

The deer around here are not fussy eaters. Your deer must have a more refined palate.

It’s odd because I know everyone complains about deer eating their gardens.. but we’ve been here for 23 years and the deer have only nibbled one shrub during a very harsh winter.
Now the woodchucks… they eat flowers as fast as i can plant them.

I just had my driveway replaced and had to dig up lots of daylilies. While I’ve replanted some, I still have hundreds of rhizomes in my wheelbarrow. I’m still not sure how thickly to replant them, or if I should just plant a few and let them spread on their own.

They’ll take off their own, but it will take a few years.

I used to be very anti-day lily, because the basic tall-stemmed orange ones are so overused in my area, but I’ve really come around to other colors and varieties. They fill in so nicely, block weeds, and as you point out, look beautiful when blooming. I’m back on Team Day Lily.

The orange are prevalent here also. I have two batches of them but only because they were here when we moved in. I planted other colors and have been very happy with them.

I laboriously removed a whole row that were here when we bought the house, but the row on the side of the house remains. I used to bring them in to display in vases, but . . . cats. 😺😺

I remember someone giving me flowers years ago, they contained a large amount of Baby’s Breath. Our resident feline ate every stem of it and then laid a trail of white vomit down the hallway.
Cats, indeed.

But if they were there all the time, would we appreciate them as much? Maybe. 🙂 They are lovely!!

Day lilies and alliums: two of my favorite bursts of color. (Fireworks too, but they’re a lot harder to grow.)
