When I was a teenager in the late 70’s and early 80’s…. Maine summers were warm, but not hot. If it hit 85 degrees we were complaining about a heat wave. Houses didn’t have air conditioning and cars in our state weren’t sold with it because we didn’t need it.

We do now.

  2. I’ve lived in three areas that were “dry”. All in Texas. People would drive to liquor stores in other counties and sell that booze locally. They are referred to as “bootleggers”. I remember my brother buying beer from them at one dollar a can.

  3. I remember the Blue Law here in Texas, my dad and uncles would prepare and go across the border to Mexico and buy tons of liquor and Mexican beer. How they got the liquor and beer across the border, I have no idea, I just remember a truck full of it. Then, they’d enjoy the weekend, lol. I’m surprised that Texas isn’t on the list with the most guns, and even more shocked that New Mexico is. We’ve hit triple digits this year but nowhere near as bad as two summer ago when the heat killed my pear tree.

      4. I was about to ask what River did, why would y’all smuggle margarine? But thanks for providing the article, I had no idea that margarine was illegal in Wisconsin. I can see that white margarine would be so unappealing.

  5. I have a friend who moved to coastal Maine to get away from the smoke from the wildfires and then Canadian forests started catching on fire. He still loves it there but it seems there’s no place to really get away from climate change.

  9. No porn stars outta Maine to me means your state must have very low percentages of drug & sex addicts, teen runaways, prostitution, strippers & human sex trafficking

  10. Romania may be young at age 12, but Iceland is age 11!
    I’m surprised Utah is all blue. Maybe they’ve eased up since the last time I saw there. I’m headed back in March, so we’ll see.
    That “Vacationing in each state” map is spot on.
    The Husband pronounces merry, marry, and Mary very distinctly, whereas they’re all the same to me. Then again, his khakies and car keys are practically indistinguishable. Ditto for porn shop and pawn shop.
