.
Here we go again…
.

.
I’m in the definite minority here.
Mary and merry for me.
.

.
Maine has a decided lack of porn stars. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or bad.
.

.
Lobster.
Maine’s reason is 🦞.
.

.
My state didn’t make either list.
.

.
I remember the silly blue laws when we lived in North Carolina and they were nothing but annoying. You can’t legislate morality…
.

.
Idexx Laboratories over LL Beans? I don’t think so.
I’ve never even heard of it.
.

.
I just read the average price of a home in Maine is over $450k… if the true value is only $168k? We’re all in trouble.
.

.
12?
What the hell Romania! At least I think that’s Romania…
.

.
When I was a teenager in the late 70’s and early 80’s…. Maine summers were warm, but not hot. If it hit 85 degrees we were complaining about a heat wave. Houses didn’t have air conditioning and cars in our state weren’t sold with it because we didn’t need it.
We do now.
.

,
I miss the good old (cool) days.
😫
.
I enjoy these maps. I think they messed up (or perhaps sold out) the brands.

I don’t take them too seriously. But they’re fun all the same..

I’ve lived in three areas that were “dry”. All in Texas. People would drive to liquor stores in other counties and sell that booze locally. They are referred to as “bootleggers”. I remember my brother buying beer from them at one dollar a can.
He’s an alcoholic, today…

NC had dry counties with brown bagger bars. In our town you couldn’t buy booze on Sunday. Planning was required on game day…

I remember the Blue Law here in Texas, my dad and uncles would prepare and go across the border to Mexico and buy tons of liquor and Mexican beer. How they got the liquor and beer across the border, I have no idea, I just remember a truck full of it. Then, they’d enjoy the weekend, lol. I’m surprised that Texas isn’t on the list with the most guns, and even more shocked that New Mexico is. We’ve hit triple digits this year but nowhere near as bad as two summer ago when the heat killed my pear tree.

My husband tells stories of being a teenager and running across the border to buy booze in NY. They hid it in the wheel well of some old Chevy. Never got caught.

What your family did with booze from Mexico, we did with margarine from Illinois. We hid it under blankets in the back of the station wagon along with a couple of kids.

I mean family members. We were not smuggling kids.

You smuggled…. margarine?

Yes. Colored margarine (you could buy it white, but it looked like lard) was illegal in WI until 1967. The story is here: https://halffastcyclingclub.wordpress.com/2019/04/10/the-ballad-of-milly-gordy/

I was about to ask what River did, why would y’all smuggle margarine? But thanks for providing the article, I had no idea that margarine was illegal in Wisconsin. I can see that white margarine would be so unappealing.

I have a friend who moved to coastal Maine to get away from the smoke from the wildfires and then Canadian forests started catching on fire. He still loves it there but it seems there’s no place to really get away from climate change.

Sadly, no.

I cannot complain about temperatures. Coastal California had one of its coldest summers ever. And it’s still only 69 today.

We may be one of the few states that hasn’t hit 100 this year, but that hardly feels like a win. With the humidity, it’s felt like 110 a few times.

Does the AQI surpassing 100 count?
LikeLiked by 1 person
If it does, we were pushing 200 at least once. Ouch.

Yeah, I was shocked by that map. It has felt like 100 here on many days.

Yes, am sure most people come here to sin. Now that it’s not affordable, tourism is dow6.

No porn stars outta Maine to me means your state must have very low percentages of drug & sex addicts, teen runaways, prostitution, strippers & human sex trafficking
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m sure we have our share of drugs and runaways, but I think our other numbers are thankfully low.

Romania may be young at age 12, but Iceland is age 11!
I’m surprised Utah is all blue. Maybe they’ve eased up since the last time I saw there. I’m headed back in March, so we’ll see.
That “Vacationing in each state” map is spot on.
The Husband pronounces merry, marry, and Mary very distinctly, whereas they’re all the same to me. Then again, his khakies and car keys are practically indistinguishable. Ditto for porn shop and pawn shop.

And you really don’t want to mix up porn and pawn. That way lies marital trouble…
