.
Last fair post, I promise.
As we were winding down our day in Fryeburg, my husband took a test drive.
.

.
On a potato planter.
He spent a good amount of time in the antique tool shed, and as usual entered into a half hour conversation.
.

.
Topic?
Identification of that weird contraption in the foreground. They could only get as far as a tying machine, for what is still a mystery.
.

.
A 1940’s television? That’s seriously early technology.
.

.
Next stop was the sugar house where they were actively boiling down sap for maple syrup.
.

.
My husband used to do this on the farm where he grew up so naturally that was another half hour conversation with the sugarer.
.

.
Syrup is a lot of work.
.

.
We stopped in the 4 H building and enjoyed the displays by local kids.
.

.
Raising livestock for market is a popular project in country schools and the students get to name their animals.
.

.
I admit I snorted over Magic Mike.
.

.
Our last stop was the swine barn.
.

.
And there were lots of baby piggies.
.

.
They’re so sweet.
.

.
Did you know pigs are very intelligent, loving and make good pets?
.

.
I tried talking my husband into one…
.

.
But he wasn’t the least bit interested.
And because no trip to the fair is complete without prize winning squash…
.

.
Here’s a 1,210 pound pumpkin.
.

.
On our way to the exit gate we ran across a few women walking their calves. Bovine kids get bored and restless just like humans when they’re cooped up all day.
💕
.
Aww, all those animals! The pigs are so cute! Not to mention the cows being walked across the street. What, the hubs said no to getting a piglet? Shame! lol

Making syrup in October? Even if you were in New Zealand, that would be pretty late.

Oh good grief!!! Not five minutes ago my daughter and hubby asked if they could get a pig and keep it on the farm.!! I shudder to think how that will turn out.

You should use WordPress’s voting button to have your readers vote on whether you should get a piglet. I predict the answer would be “yes” by a wide margin. Think of the blog fodder and how much fun we could have watching the piggy/kitty friendship blossom. Ugh. Missed opportunity.

I doubt the poll results would sway the husband.

That 1210 pound pumpkin? Nothing compared to what one of those piglets will weigh upon attaining adulthood!
Your husband’s a smart man!

If he put the kibosh on the cow, no way would he agree to the pig!

I enjoyed all your fair posts. We lived near the Evergreen State Fair in Washington when I was growing up. After I was in college, my parents began showing their Cheviot sheep and winning ribbons.

We have neighbors a few houses down that raise rare breeds of sheep. I’d like to go over and pet them but the owner isn’t too keen on that.

That’s a shame. We could watch our sheep out our living room windows. They got very lively in the evenings running and romping around. It was quite the view. I’d pet the young ones.

I want to, but … no.
Thankfully I can’t see them from our house.

I also thought it would be fun to have a baby Pig but I would prefer a baby Goat I could dress in pajamas.

I was bummed we didn’t make it to the Sandwich Fair and see the oxen this past weekend. Had to head home early to avoid the nor’easter (and still had flight delays).
