Here a bot, there a bot…

.

While I don’t usually pay a lot of attention to my stats, there are some days I have to.

.

.

Because WordPress likes to announce it when they rise .

“Hey loser! Look at you, people have found your miserable little blog. Kudos.”

.

.

And over the past few days things have definitely been looking up.

.

.

So much so, I got suspicious.

.

.

Yes, the majority were from the U.S…. but still, for me the numbers have been crazy.

.

.

Fearing they were bots…I sent a question to the Happiness Engineers.

.

.

Which, irony of ironies…. was answered by a bot.

.

.

Frank.

Yeah, sure.

Not believing I had suddenly become that popular, I went ahead and changed my WordPress password.

And the very next day?

.

.

Things were back to normal.

🤣

  1. There is an ad in this morning’s paper to “Meet someone who truly cares. Someone who remembers your stories, checks in when you are not feeling your best, and helps you stay connected to a community who share your journey…She offers warmth, empathy, and genuine presence…” This “someone” is a bot. So now you can buy something that is genuinely artificial. Maybe we can get her to read our blogs (a few hundred times/day).

  2. I wouldn’t mind bots visiting if they left a truly meaningful comment, but I suspect that is not a bot’s strong suit. Then again, I’ve seen some comments on sites that look like a bot word vomited all over the space.😁

  3. I had pretty much the same experience but, being me, I did nothing and within a few days things settled back to normal. I wonder exactly what these bots do. If they republish, I hope they are more successful with them than I have been!
