Whenever we visit Boothbay Harbor?
.

.
We have to take a drive out to East Boothbay.
.

.
Their loop road is one of the prettiest in Maine.
.

.
Skirting the shore…
.

.
Right along the Atlantic Ocean….
.

.
It’s quintessentially Maine.
.

.
And has some pretty fabulous waterfront homes.
.

.
With some stellar views.
.

.
There’s even a mini lighthouse.
.

.
Some of the properties are for rent in the summer, though I’d hate to guess the cost .
.

.
Scenic drive done, we headed for the Thistle Inn for cocktails and a small bite to eat.
.

.
A ship captain’s home built in 1861…
.

.
it now houses a charming rustic pub and restaurant as well as six suites.
.

.
Did I mention the bar is an actual boat?
.

.
Husband’s French onion soup was rich and hearty.
.

.
My truffle mushroom tart was rich and delicate and absolutely fabulous.
.

.
If you’re in the area, Thistle has some of the best food around.
.
Beautiful photos. I think the Maine coast is a national treasure. That soup looks delicious.

It is.
And it was.

I read somewhere that Maine was losing people and paying them to relocate. The younger people are leaving for jobs in other areas. It does look like a nice spot to retire, quiet.

paying people to relocate to Maine…if you showed them pics, the younger ones they might.

That used to be the case, but our cities are rejuvenating and investing in more affordable housing so the tide is shifting.

And then the job situation. Some areas as booming and some need rejuvenation. There are some beautiful areas but you can only afford them with nice jobs or pensions.

That’s true here as well.

Same where we live. But Florida is supposedly strong in the job dept. depending on which city you chose.

Good to know about Thistle!
Maine is gorgeous. It’s one and only problem is your ocean swimming is too cold for me. I really like to get IN the ocean (without a wet suit) 🌊

It can be a bit nippy. But for hot flashing menopausal women like me?
Heaven.

I just can’t get in past my knees there. It’s numbing.

Thank you.
Though with Maine it’s pretty easy.

A lovely place and that is the smallest lighthouse I have ever seen.
The Inn looks a lovely and relaxing place to be.

I almost reached through my monitor to get to that french onion soup. I’m a huge fan, and we have a place nearby that really does that dish up right. Love the boat bar.

It’s my husband’s go to appetizer. He tends to judge restaurants on that alone.

I found a 1bdrm concerted boathouse for $174/night.

On Ocean Point?
Wow. That surprises me…

Wherever you were (too lazy to look). Most prices were pretty good, but I also saw some at $670/night. The boat house is redonk small!

Lots of East Boothbay isn’t on the water so I could see that. But Ocean Point is right on the Atlantic and tends to be quite high.

I’ve actually heard of Booth Bay – I think there’s a famous mystery that was set there – probably an old black and white movie (my favorites). Now I’m hungry had too many projects today to go to the store. I’ll be eggs for me!
