  1. I only used the walker for a few days. I still use the cane… but that’s about back pain, not knee pain.

    Despite talking about it for months, my doc didn’t request my walker till I was in the hospital – so you’re ahead of me!! Do you have a surgery date?

    1. They gave me the walker at my last orthopedic P.A. appointment. Said insurance paid for it but that I had to buy my own cane so I picked one up at Wal Mart. Surgery is scheduled for the last week in October.

      1. In addition to the chair, I have a mission “lingerie dresser”, a big cd case (kinda looks like an apothecary cabinet), and a standing lamp that needs repair. I adore mission furniture and initially thought I’d do my whole house that way… then reality of being a temp worker w/o a partner (no add’l income) hit. I’m quite envious of what I’ve seen of your home & barn mahal interiors!

  4. If I have to break out the walker again, I’ll probably spray paint it metallic purple. I’m currently trying to decide how to decorate the cane. I put cool swirly stickers on it but it’s a folding cane and the stickers aren’t holding up well. Maybe rhinestones?? Assorted reflective stripes? Small puffy cat stickers?

    1. I wanted a nice floral one but figured it wasn’t worth chasing all over town for something I’m not going to use much anyway. Should have checked Amazon. They have some interesting patterns when I searched pretty canes for women.

      1. I think it was Christina Applegate who had some cool cane that caused to go find the maker. I wanted one that was clear acrylic with neon-looking light inside it. Of course, stupidly expensive, plus shipping from London. I don’t even have the link anymore cause I knew I was likely to buy it while drunk!

  6. Maybe you can get your husband to carve you a cane – maybe from that crabapple tree you had to cut in half. And make sure someone adjusts the cane and walker for you and shows you the right way to use them. When you see folks hunched over, pushing the walker ahead of them, that usually means it’s adjusted wrong and they don’t know how to use it. (And with the sliders yours has on the back legs, you don’t need tennis balls. Just be sure you don’t trap grit under them to scratch your floors.)

  8. Get ski glides for the rear legs of the walker – $6 on Amazon – they make getting around with the walker so much easier – (we eventually replaced these with wheels but you won’t be using your walker for that long) – but definitely ski glides.

  11. I originally had a cane like that from my doc and I bought a more comfortable and stylish one through Amazon. For my hip replacement, I had a rollator instead of a wheeler purchased from my health fund through my last education job. It worked well. They never really offered me the walker but instead hustled me out quickly. I guess that was a prime item but I did get some kind of apparatus to sit higher on the toilet and something to sit down in the shower. The husband put it together. I don’t know what I would have done if he was not available. No idea how to put it together. Sounds like you are getting there!

  13. Not good news. But that walker they gave you would be an antique in Canada. Gail and I both have black leather ones, with strong seats in case one gets tired, and big wheels for easier walking over unlevel ground. Our public health paid for both of them. Private insurance is not user friendly.

  16. Well, it looks like everything is in place at this point. I think you’re pretty well-versed in what all is taking place by now lol. Fingers crossed those toys won’t be played with for very long thereafter.
