Before and after.

.

After a week and a half’s worth of moving, organizing and inconvenience… carpet day arrived.

.

.

With one poor guy doing the whole thing alone.

.

.

He said he’s been doing it that way for 30 years and prefers it, so okay dokay.

.

.

By afternoon, there was carpet fiber everywhere. By the end of the next day?

We were ready for before and after pics.

The den, with its old rippled carpet.

.

.

The den, with its smooth new carpet.

.

.

Not only was there a horrible ripple in the old carpet, but His Lordship had found a loose end by the threshold and proceeded to lift it by scratching on a daily basis.

.

.

New, tightly tucked and cat proofed threshold.

.

.

The office… with the old absolutely hideous dusty rose/Pepto Bismol industrial carpet the previous owners laid.

.

.

Still can’t believe I lived with that abomination for so many years.

The office… with its new soothing beige.

.

.

Pink.

.

.

No pink.

I’m a neutral girl at heart and was thrilled to see that Barbie inspired flooring make its final journey to the dump.

We purchased the same pricey Karastan carpet that we had laid in the bedrooms and hall last year so it would all coordinate. The store told us there was no guarantee it would match exactly as they would be from different production runs, but I don’t see any difference.

.

.

New to the right, last year’s to the left.

We’re pleased…. and very glad things can now get back to normal.

.

Before and after….

.

Our new flooring is (90%) done so I thought you might like to see a few before and afters.

Keep in mind the before shots don’t show how truly terrible and worn out the old Berber carpet really was.

(With a gaping hole on the upper right waiting for the new dining room set to arrive.)

With the same empty space on the left.

Another after from the empty dining space.

Some of these after pictures don’t do it justice as the true color is hard to capture. It’s not as dark as it looks in some and has a much warmer tone in person.

.

The next project…

.

This is our living room.

.

.

And as much as I shudder at the idea of another potential disaster, replacing this floor is the next project on my list.

The carpet is old and was put in by the previous owner in 2002.

It’s time.

We’ll be replacing the carpet in our bedrooms, but for the living/dining room and main hall we’re thinking luxury vinyl plank.

.

.

Since I refuse to replace every baseboard, door and piece of window trim as well as the built in bookcases and fireplace mantle …. I’ll need to stay in that honey tone of wood.

Question is – do I go light?

.

.

Or dark?

I love online stores who have this app. Visuals are everything when choosing floors.

Our contractor says he might be able to install the floor in late December so I need to start shopping seriously now.

Armed with a broken piece of trim, my girlfriend and I hit a few floor retailers.

.

.

Too grey.

.

.

Too brown.

.

.

The frustrating part? I came home with three samples that all looked different at home than they did in the store. Heck, they look different from room to room.

.

.

Nope.

.

.

Ugh. Even worse.

.

.

This has the same hue, though it’s more rustic than I wanted. Pulling it up on the app, it looked muted.

.

.

Though in this picture the color striations are more pronounced.

.

.

I like the color…

.

.

But I’m wondering if it’s too busy a pattern?
