And then, there were butterflies.

Magic Wings is aptly named.

It’s a large greenhouse like building with meandering paths filled with tropical foliage, blooms, birds and…..

Butterflies!

IMG_0269

Everywhere you look…

IMG_0321

There were bright bursts of color flitting from leaf to leaf…

IMG_0280

And hat to hat.

IMG_0287

The husband was popular among the winged set at first…

IMG_0297

But I had my admirers as well.

IMG_0300

It really was quite magical.

As a matter of fact, I am.

IMG_0293

There were brightly colored birds…

IMG_0298

And brightly colored feeding stations.

Sugared water in a dish scrubber? Might be worth trying at home.

IMG_0319

It wasn’t easy photographing them as they’re constantly on the move.

IMG_0341

And even more impossible to film them flying by.

But rotting bananas seemed to be a good pit stop.

This blue fellow was terribly hard to catch standing still.

While these two were battling tooth and nail for the right to that impatient bloom.

You had to be careful where you walked, and sat….

IMG_0356

Since butterflies expend an enormous amount of energy flying from flower to flower, they sometimes run out of oomph and simply drop to the floor in front of you.

And sometimes, if you were lucky…

IMG_0283

You captured a little butterfly porn.

IMG_0270

It was lovely.

And if you’re asking the question, “Have you petted your fringed lizard today?”

IMG_0309

Why yes….

IMG_0308

Yes, I have.

Her name was Samantha, and she was a very sweet girl.

Don’t judge.

Reptiles need love too….

  1. I always say it isn’t a trip to the zoo (or any other place that has animals on display) if you don’t get to see a little humpday action…

That said, I went through the butterfly “house” on my last trip to the zoo and never really felt comfortable in there. The butterfly to people ratio was somewhere near swarm levels, and I don’t do well with objects flying all around me like that…

  2. Samantha looks super cute and definitely deserves petting!

My husband and I once visited a butterfly farm in Aruba and only one came even remotely near us, landing on my husband’s camera as he was taking a picture. Glad your butterflies were friendlier.
