.
It had been a while since we visited our farming neighbors across the road, so the other day we took a walk.
.

.
Unfortunately they weren’t home, but we took the time to check out what was happening on their farm. There’s something about strolling through verdant fields of crops that just makes me smile.
.

.
Every time we visit there’s something new.
.

.
This time it was a veritable village of greenhouses.
.

.
These seemingly sprung up overnight, with full irrigation… which must have been quite a feat.
.

.
A house addition was under way as well.
.

.
Why was there a skeleton prominently displayed on the barn wall? It’s probably better if we don’t ask.
.

.
Ugh. I suppose a row of kale was inevitable.
🤢
.

.
There’s our Barn Mahal/man cave in the background.
.

.
We never realize how much it dominates the landscape until we see it from far away. Oops.
☺️
.

.
On our way out we had to stop by the farm stand they opened when Covid shut down most of their markets.
.

.
And naturally we came home with a few things.
.

.
Lettuce, spinach, potatoes and blueberry yogurt. You can’t get much fresher than that.
.
You forgot to buy kale.

My mom used to work in greenhouses like those. Hot, humid and smelling of fertilizer… she LOVED that job. It was like she was a teenager all over again.

There’s something very rewarding about watching things grow. Unless it’s mold, no one wants that.

Well, she fought for it. My dad wanted her to stay home because her working was a reflection on his ability to support the family. But, we kids were teenagers and really didn’t need her around constantly and she was bored out of her mind.
She got her way. She ALWAYS got her way…

Skeleton wall ornamentation aside, those are some great neighbours to have!

They were once over loaded with strawberries and told us to bring a bucket. Truly the best neighbors!

Well, somebody obviously buys kale or nobody would grow it. I guess.

I know they love it. I can just never figure out why.

Nope. If the husband plants it? It’s on its own. Survival of the fittest, which is why 3/4’s of the apple trees he planted last year died.

Yet another reason for me to be jealous. What a great and sustainable neighbor you have, you can get fresh veggies in walking distance? Yes definitely jealous, and yes I like kale….🥬🥬🥬

We did their CSA last year, but they grow a lot of things we don’t eat ( yes, kale I’m talking to you ) so now we just walk over and buy what we want. It’s marvelous!

How wonderful River, I wish I lived that close to a farm to buy fresh fruits and veggies when the mood hit.

They just started harvesting blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Pure heaven!

Actually, you said they weren’t home, right? Pretty sure you could’ve come home with something fresher if you’d plucked it from the ground yourselves.

Neighbors don’t steal neighbor’s eggplants. Nope. Uh uh.

Are you sure the walk was to see the neighbors and not for your husband to view the man cave? !

Those are the best kind of neighbors; I love it all! Well, not the skeleton, but maybe it was a science experiment gone wrong?
