The time had come.

Our annual pilgrimage to Tamworth Distillers in New Hampshire took place recently. The day was clear and cold and we found snow upon arrival.

But no one cares about that.

It’s a building filled with alcohol. Let’s shop!

.

.

I made a beeline to my very favorite gin, Damson plum… and gathered enough to make my checkbook squeal.

.

.

I passed on the whiskey made with beaver castoreum.

.

Because if he mixes it with urine to scent mark his territory ? I’m not using it to mix a cocktail.

Nope.

Not going to happen.

I did try their extremely unique brandy.

.

Made with the durian fruit. You know … the one that smells like rotting flesh?

While the aroma wasn’t that horrible, it was a bit too potent for my taste.

We spent a good deal of time in the store because naturally the husband found a Marine to talk to. They were stationed in the same place, with the same squadron and knew a lot of the same people… which meant yours truly wandered aimlessly back and forth, trying more free samples than she should have.

      1. The cap is the only USMC thing my husband ever wears. People gift him shirts and sweaters and they go right in the drawer never to be seen again. But those hats start a lot of conversations…
As for the alcohol ingredients, you have to admit they’re unique.

      2. The man I admire above all others is a Marine, and I won’t even wear Jarhead gear in his honor. It’s kind of like wearing a Harley T-shirt, only a little more personal. Riding a Harley isn’t a matter of being worthy.

      1. My dad was in the Navy, stationed at a nuclear missile sub base. Needless to say there were Marines all over the place, much better for security than a drowsy, donut-filled security guard. They were also little league coaches, scoutmasters and all kinds of community involvement, as well as being the fathers of lots of my friends. Even after all that exposure, I still don’t know what “Open the gun” means. I promise never to use the knowledge for evil, but please don’t let me die in ignorance.

      2. I had no idea so I asked my husband. He said Marines never say “gun”. It’s weapon, or rifle. But if that’s a slang phrase, it must be a new one.
