We just had a deck railing visitor.

.
He’s a juvenile hawk who’s realized our bird feeders are prime hunting ground… and doves are quite tasty.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten was less than pleased…

Nice of you to bait the trap for him. And, pssst, Dudley, you better be careful.

While His Lordship enjoys watching birds, this one scared the Hell out of him.

With good reason.

We had an owl land on the roof one evening. He didn’t come out from under the bed for hours.

They are so lovely, but not too good for the doves. What does one do when this happens? Do you halt feeding the doves for a few days?

We might not like it, but hawks need to eat too. The birds adapted, though it was not easy. They changed their eating habits, striking fast wnd often, no sitting around leisurely eating. After a while the hawk moved on to greener pastures is all I can guess. He stopped coming.

The doves are numerous and part of Mother Nature’s food chain… I never interfere. Hawk swoops in and takes his kill elsewhere. All we see are a few feathers on the ground.

I need one of those juveniles here at my house. I have tons of pigeons that need “exterminating.” Oh and black birds too, those pests are every where….🙄

We don’t have pigeons, but the starlings come in flocks.

Lucky you, you don’t have to deal with those flying rats with wings pooping and absconding the cat food I set out for two of the neighborhood strays. I’ve taken to using my son’s pellet gun on those pests to keep them away from the cat food, ugh.

Put some kind of box or cover over the cat food. What they can’t see, they can’t eat.

I bet the doves were even less pleased than Lord Dudley.
