Operation dinner out.

.

We’d spent the afternoon with my SIL at the nursing home. It was her birthday and we brought flowers, a gift and a balloon. Her daughter, sister and other brother were also there.

We had cake.

We tried, but she was having none of it. She didn’t want us there, didn’t talk to us, didn’t enjoy any of it. And while her attitude was sad, a part of me felt it was also selfish. There are people in that home who have no one. No hot and cold running visitors bringing them everything they ask for. No devoted daughter taking care of their bills and legal issues. No flowers, no balloons, no celebration. Yes, her situation is sad… but stewing in self pity and being blind to those trying to help is no way to live.

Anyway… after that?

I required an adult beverage.

.

.

Passion fruit lemon drop to the rescue.

.

.

With a large rooster keeping us company.

.

.

Appetizer for the husband was baked cheesy meatballs.

.

.

Creamy corn chowder and a grilled pineapple margarita pour moi.

.

.

We were dining at the Tuscan Bistro which rarely disappoints.

.

.

Shrimp scampi with fresh fettuccini for the husband.

.

.

Shrimp risotto with tomato jam, corn, roasted red peppers and a strawberry Sangria for me.

.

.

Both were fabulous and filling…. but not filling enough to pass up the Tiramisu.

.

.

Perfect!

  1. It’s sad that your SIL isn’t appreciative of her family trying to make her birthday a happy one. But people who participate in self pity will never see beyond anything but their bad situation. Finally got a great review for your lunch out! The last couple of outings have been disappointing as far as the food was concerned. What caught my eye was the charred pineapple margarita!

  2. You’re Appetizer and your Husband’s Dinner would have been great for me. I’m sure it’s hard being in one of those places. Sometimes, we just have to give them a break and put ourselves in their situation.

  3. I told Tara I want to make meatballs this week and gave her a list of four possible dishes that would satisfy the craving. Tuesday, we will be having albondigas. Sadly, without any of those great-looking cocktails!

  4. I’m with you; your SIL is being selfish. I can only guess she’s physically feeling miserable, so it’s coming out.

All your food looked delicious; well earned for doing your family duty!
