.
I’m pleased to report the giant lemon lemonade stand was operational at the Fryeburg Fair …
.

.
And though it cost a ridiculous $8 per ice laden glass, I purchased one…
.

.
To accompany the husband’s three $10 chicken fingers and $5 bottle of water. $23 for what amounted to a nibble. Welcome to the price gouging, we know you have no alternative, fair food concession stands.
Trying to make up for it, I made a beeline for my favorite fair treat…
.

.
Which sadly was an undercooked, under spiced disappointing piece of fried dough. Boo to that.
I ate said disappointing dough in the grandstand of the pulling ring where the husband likes to watch the draft horses. I don’t enjoy this spectacle as I always feel sorry for the animals. The teams of three are expected to pull double their weight which can end up being 10,000 lbs, and while I know they’re bred and trained for this exact purpose… it still makes me cringe on their behalf.
I did however smile at this happy fellow who started the show in true Fenway Park 7th inning stretch fashion.
.
.
If you’re not a Red Sox fan?
Never mind.
.

.
This team was amazing. Perfectly matched and working completely in unison.
.

.
I may not like it…
.

.
But it’s hard not to be impressed with the strength of these magnificent creatures.
.
Looks like slave labor, maybe one day the horses will revolt

They’re bred for it, but I’m not a fan either.

Not a Baseball fan period but can appreciate someone dancing to Neal Diamond

And I’m not a Neil Diamond fan, but it’s Fenway tradition.

I’d buy the food begrudgingly. I like the horses, though.

They’re beautiful. And they make me feel small which is getting harder to do these days…
🤣

Yep, right there with you on that point.

The harnesses alone look like they weight a ton!

They do. We watched the men lift them into place. Oof!

The horses are magnificent and graceful creatures. I just love watching them when the students bring them out to exercise in the equine research center behind our office. But these horses are much bigger than the ones at the university. I can say I’m not in favor of them being hooked up to perform either.

My husband says it doesn’t hurt them, that they were bred to pull heavy loads… but it still doesn’t look like fun from their end.

I don’t know why, but fair food always smells much better than it tastes! I know what you mean about the horses. The only animal events I like to watch at the fair are the piglet races. They’re just ridiculous!

We missed the pig scramble.

Not a Red Sox fan. Not even much of a Twins fan. I just go for the chili dogs.

So much dough for so little dough. The irony of it all!

It was the worst I’ve ever had. And I didn’t think bad fried dough was even possible….

Usually you can fry anything and make it taste good. I have no idea how they could have screwed that up.

I spent many of my pre-teen and teen summers staring at the butts of draft horses dragging logs out of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Admirable, but once you have watch dray butts while holding the reins, it quickly loses its charm

I imagine it would. You probably had to be careful where you stepped as well…
