.
I live in Maine.
Today is November 1rst.
We’re still waiting for the oh so special Marvin window reps to grace us with their presence and friends, let me tell you… things are starting to get real up in here.
Last night the temps dropped into the 30’s and the wind blew for hours. And when I say it blew… I mean right into the bedroom through the gaps in the faulty windows that are on either side of our bed.
Cold drafts on my neck? Yes.
High pitched whistling that woke me up at 2:09am? You betcha.
Now I don’t know about you, but I am not my best self at 2:09am. Being a lifelong insomniac means the hours between 1 and 3 are pretty much the only ones I can guarantee to be deeply asleep. So when I have to get up and scramble around the bedroom in the dark looking for something to plug the leaks?
It’s not going to be pretty.
.

.
If you notice anything odd about the picture I took this morning it will be on the right hand side.
.

.
Because at 2:09am in the bedroom in the dark?
.

.
Socks is what I found to plug the drafty whistling windows.
Jesus wept.
This is my life now.
.

.
At daybreak I did manage to rustle up some foam weatherstripping from the utility closet.
.

.
But like every other piece of bad luck I’ve been having, there wasn’t quite enough.
🥴
.
Seriously, I’m so sorry but thanks for the smile! I hope they call soon. I hope they hear your pleas. I hope they offer you everything for free from now on until the end of time. 🙂

Wouldn’t that be nice. At this point I’d be satisfied with just getting what I paid for. Surely that’s not too much to ask…

Your choice of draft blocker could have been a lot more embarrassing than socks!

I’m sure I don’t know what you mean….

So, so sorry. You shouldn’t need a hefty supply of weatherstripping (or socks) for brand new custom windows!

No one else does, just me.
I’m lucky that way.

You mean your still waiting on the window rep?! What the literal hell?! I know Maine is a lot colder than it is here (which was around 31 degrees last night.) But in spite of all the old and drafty windows I have, I rarely need to use anything to plug the draft. Wow, I’m sorry you are still going through this crap.

Our contractor calls the store rep every other day and every other he’s told the window people will call to set up an appointment. It’s getting old fast.

That is just crap.

Quite the feet, covering up your windows in the middle of the night like that.

Necessity is the mother of invention. And window stuffing as it turns out…

i had an old school carpenter show me how he used plastic grocery bags to do this same trick. He put them in a bunch of my drafty windows ( in my previous home)and they worked beautifully – but they didnt look real pretty…lol..sorry you are going through this..that sucks!

Plastic grocery bags are outlawed up here, but I could see that working quite well.

Try stuffing newspapers under your clothes. It’s an old hobo trick for keeping warm… although, I think it would be easier to find another blanket than a newspaper, these days.

I have enough of my own stuffing. No added required…

Now you have a use for all those $2 jeans! And I think it’s safe to say you are now ready to weather a few nights at Mount Everest Base Camp.

The jeans are gone. As for Everest, my knee would never make it…

I had shirts stuffed in one of my old windows (gap between the frames). Now it’s 2 styrofoam rolls that came in something.

My goal is not having to stuff things in cracks.

Oh my gosh…nothing worse than being woken up AND cold at the same time. I do appreciate your ingenuity though; you’re a smart (somewhat cold) cookie!
