I had a birthday recently… though I swore I was done with all that aging nonsense, the years still keep coming …. and woke up to find these in the kitchen.

Two boxes of fat bomb truffles even though he knows I’ve been trying to cut back on sugar.

And no, he didn’t buy me the usual unwanted expensive small appliance this year, but I did get a marble and river rock spoon rest… complete with spoon.

And though I really wish he wouldn’t, he bought me jewelry. A rather odd silver bracelet with attached rock.
Now, I do love me some rocks…. but I have a feeling this particular one will be quietly exchanged.

But there was a pretty flower arrangement delivered later in the day…

A toaster would have been fantastic … at least compared with the trouser press my lovely wife once gave me for a birthday. 😀

That’s actually an inside joke. He bought me a fancy $200 toaster last year for my birthday… and it doesn’t even toast well.
At least a trouser press saves you from ironing. Or saves HER from ironing, which makes it a very clever gift indeed.

When we met, we talked about things like presents, and agreed they can happen anytime one feels like it, but no special days. Acknowledgements are acceptable. Nice gestures are acceptable. But othereise no day is different from any other day, though occasionally she likes to plan special meals on certain days — which we prepare together. This year I made her your pineapple magic cake, and she loved it. In fact we have mxde two more magic cakes since then, we both like it very much. Thank you for that.

I’ve had the no gift discussion with my other half many times. We’ve reached an age where we have everything we need or want, but he always likes to make an effort for my birthday.

Such an old-fashioned man. As everyone says, he mesns well, but oh so wasteful of time, money, and effort.
The flowers were a nice touch — for as long as they last.

The thing is I’m really not a big chocolate fan, but these are handmade and expensive and he keeps buying them for me. Sweet, but…. I wish he wouldn’t.
