Since work will be starting in the living/dining room and we have a new dining room set on order… it was time to clean out the old china hutch and get rid of the old table and chairs.
.

.
Our contractor wanted the chairs, so out they went.
.

.
The table, which was so horribly faded I thought no one would want it…. went to the farm across the street. With a brand new tablecloth to cover the discoloration.
.

.
That left cleaning out the hutch which hadn’t been done in at least a decade.
.

.
Lord Dudley wanted to help…. but didn’t.
Aside from dozens of candles, placemats, dishes, cups, saucers, platters, chargers, crystal decanters, napkin rings, extra cutlery, knives, holiday tablecloths and a soup tureen …. I discovered the family silver.
.

.
Which all needed to be needed polished.
.

.
And of course…. because this my china hutch?
.

.
There was alcohol.
😉
.

.
So…
Does anyone want a china cabinet?
🥴
.
I’ve been dragging around my grandmother’s china cabinet for 40+ years and it is one hot mess but so useful. Everyone who notices it in the background of some of my photos thinks it’s some kind of antique treasure. It’s certainly not as ornate as yours, and my grandmother acquired it via “street shopping” -sometime in the early 1900’s.

They may be outdated, but they’re definitely useful. I don’t know where I’d put all those things if I didn’t have one.
And hey, yours may not be ornate but the price was right.

That it is not ornate or overly large is one of the reasons I am so attached to it. At one point when I was living in a studio apartment it served as storage for all my fold-up clothes. Street shopping in NYC was always profitable one way or the other.

Yay for surprise booze!! Now, can ya get over hete and empty my cabinet too? Mine is mostly martini-ware, espresso cups, and vodka/bar-related things like drink mats, promo shirts, and cocktail menus.

Sorry, you’re on your own.

I see these refurbishing sites on social media who do brilliant renovations on old things like this… Really, if you have time and money and a little creative vision, you’d be surprised at the amazing transformation some of these older, dated furniture pieces end up with.
The silver might fetch some coin … The buyers interested usually melt it down though.

The silver isn’t for sale. The hutch has to go though…

I got rid of my Grandmother’s Tea set a few years ago; who thought it was a good idea to have anything that needed to be polished on the regular?
The china hutch glass design is really cool; looks like a bee hive!

It’s beautiful when it’s all polished and shiny… but ugh. Getting it there is a nightmare.

Only if there’s still alcohol in there.

Sorry. That’s been relocated to the man cave bar…

What about the barn? Hubby could use it as cabinet of curiosities. Someone will love it I hope.

No room out there… and it doesn’t really fit with the man cave rustic charm.
